JOB DESCRIPTION
Start Date: 2025/2025 School Year
Position: Van Driver
Supervisor: Director of Transportation
Description: Safely transport students to and from school and all school related events; comply withfederal and state laws and board of education rules and mandates
NOTE: The below lists are not ranked in order of importance
Essential Functions:
- Ensure safety of students
- Provides courteous orderly punctual and safe transportation of students in assigned vehicles alongprescribed routes to and from designated schools
- Drives safely on all assigned routes; obeys all state and local traffic laws as well as the regulations andprocedures of the Louisville Schools Transportation Department
- Complies with all Ohio Pupil Transportation and Safety Rules as prescribed by the Ohio Department ofTransportation
- Attends state county and district safety meetings or courses that are required for reemployment
- Conducts a daily van inspection each morning to check tires gas lights brakes and other items as requiredby law. Checks interior of van daily for damage
- Reports in writing to the Director of Transportation or Director of Operations any mechanical defectsmalfunctions damage etc.
- Fuels the van and notes date mileage and amount of fuel in the record book that is kept in the van
- Cleans interior of van outside mirrors and glass areas daily for regular and extra trips- De-ices in cold weather
- Maintains discipline in the van and reports student misconduct to the Director of Transportation at theend of the route Meets with the principal to discuss the student misconduct
- Remains in van while students are loading and unloading
- Makes all required oral or written reports: accidents student misconduct incidents van deficiencies timecards absentee reports passenger lists forms for the Treasurers office etc.
- Reports to work every day at the assigned time
- Provides a communication link between parents students and school
- Meets with parents and administrators as required
- Report all accidents and complete required reports
- Attend driver meetings and be available in the event of emergency dismissal
- Notify the Transportation Supervisor in case of illness in order to permit time to secure a substitute driver
- Share in the responsibility for driving for a school-sponsored event and/or approved field trip
- Interact in a positive manner with staff students parents and community
- Obey all traffic laws
- Attend meetings and in-services as required
- Maintain valid driving credentials
- Knowledge of computer skills emails and spreadsheets
Other Duties and responsibilities:
- Performs other driving duties as directed
- Complies with student confidentiality matters as they relate to medical and/or special education situations
- Serve as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as responsible citizens
- Complies with all Louisville Board of Education policies and procedures
Qualifications:
- Valid CDL license for Class B school buses
- Certifiable by the Board of Education for driving school bus
- Insurable by the districts fleet insurance carrier
- Ability to professionally respond to student misconduct

Equipment Operated:
- School van
- Stepladder to clear outside mirrors and glass
- Air powered oil dispenser general maintenance items (i.e. oil cans antifreeze cans)
- Use of power washer (220V)
- Safety equipment
- Communication radio
- Fueling equipment
Additional Working Conditions:
- Occasional exposure to blood and body fluids
- Occasional operation of a van under inclement weather conditions
- Occasional interaction among unruly children
- Occasional requirement to lift and carry bus supplies up to a maximum of 50 pounds
- Occasional requirement to push and pull up to a maximum of 300 pounds (on wheels)
