Platform Engineer

Job Summary:

The Platform Engineering team exists to support customers Itential deployments and operational lifecycle. This specialized team focuses on all platform aspects for availability redundancy security and scale. Deployment architectures & operating patterns will be defined and executed directly with our customers. This team will serve as the experts within Itential and provide guidance to Itential Product teams.

Team members of the Platform Team will provide the knowledge skills and execution assets for operating installing and upgrading Itential products according to the highest possible standards. This team will work closely with the Professional Services Customer Success Product Support and Product Engineering teams as they seek to support each in the daily operation of the platform and its continued evolution.

The ideal team member will possess the following qualities:

• A depth of experience and acquired wisdom from many years of deploying applications to production environments.
• Knowledge of how Kubernetes and other container platforms work and experience supporting applications that run on Kubernetes.
• Experience installing software products or upgrading them on Linux systems.
• An eagerness to help customers and serve as an escalation point with platform & architecture issues/outages. Be able to handle situations that require a calm logical approach when a customer deployment is under duress.
• A thirst for knowledge. The work will require us to be innovative and explore undefined environment and deployment patterns. We will need to be current on the latest tools products and trends in the IT infrastructure industry.
• Thorough analytic skills for demanding tasks and solid coding skills.
• A passion to automate everything and the attitude to make it happen.

You will:

• Be engaged with customers at the beginning of their journey assisting with the installation and basic configuration of the product suite for all supported architectures.
• Be engaged with the customers during their journey assisting with scale demands code promotion demands upgrade demands and other operational demands.
• Be engaged with other Itential teams recommending improvements sharing performance observations providing customer feedback and advocating for product enhancements and non-functional features.
• Contribute to any tooling identified by the team as necessary either internally or externally as the needs demand.
• Be responsible for aspects of customer documentation internal documentation and the clear communication of team priorities and goals.
• Develop test plans implementation plans upgrade plans and timelines for various projects and tasks.

Technical skills required:

• Comfort at the Linux command line basic Linux tools and VI editor (or similar tool).
• Proficient coding skills in one of the following: Python Node Ansible Bash or Go.
• Experience deploying applications in Kubernetes Helm and docker containers.
• Experience with AWS and AWS products such as EC2 EKS Elasticache and others.
• Comfort working with MongoDB Redis & database technologies.
• Experience working in a Scrum team or other Agile methodologies.
• Experience in researching difficult problems emerging technologies and trends standards and synthesizing into clear actionable tasks and strategies.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills for a wide range of audiences including customer stakeholders other Itential teams and internal and external documentation.

Required Skills/Abilities:

• Proficient coding skills in one of the following: Python Node Ansible Bash or Go.
• Comfort at the Linux command line basic Linux tools and VI editor (or similar tool).
• Comfort writing MongoDB queries.
• Experience working in a Scrum team or other Agile methodologies.
• Experience in researching difficult problems emerging technologies and trends standards and synthesizing into clear actionable tasks and strategies.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills for a wide range of audiences including customer stakeholders other Itential teams and internal and external documentation.
