Clinical Nurse Manager 2 - Paediatric Shift Leader
Purpose of the Post
The post of CNM 2 is to coordinate and provide senior nurse leadership between the paediatric inpatient wards and across the paediatric emergency services. This CNM2 l provides governance and senior nursing knowledge and expertise to maintain safety utilisation of resources and mitigate risks during the shift. The CNM2 is responsible for patient flow and adhering to guidelines and patient flow pathways. The CNM2 has a pivotal role in service planning co-ordinating and managing activity and resources within the clinical area. The main responsibilities are: quality assurance resource management staffing and staff development practice development facilitating communication and professional / clinical leadership. The CNM2 is responsible for managing activity and implementing the paediatric escalation plan in full in conjunction with the Operational Assistant Director of Nursing.
The Childrens Ark is comprised of eight main areas:
The Sunshine Ward can accommodate 27 children from 15 months to 16 years.
The Rainbow Ward can accommodate 22 children from newborn to 15 months.
The Paediatric High Dependency Unit (PHDU) has two beds for children who require high dependency nursing and medical care. This is the only PHDU outside of Dublin and has a significant track record since its inception in managing complex paediatric cases and avoiding transfer to tertiary care.
The Caterpillar Day Ward supports paediatric care through the following:
Shared care- oncology service with key networks with Childrens Hospital Ireland
Shared care service with Nephrology and Gastroenterology with key networks with Childrens Hospital Ireland
Cardiology assessments and reviews with paediatric cardiology team
Endocrinology inclusive of hormone stimulation tests.
All paediatrics teams support the Day service with input from Consultant ANP and CNS reviews.
Supports diagnostic investigations
The Cystic Fibrosis Unit coordinates all care of paediatric cystic fibrosis patients working closely with both our inpatient wards and our day ward in the delivery of that care.
The Paediatric Diabetes Care Department is located within the Ark and has established the roll-out of the Under-5 Insulin Pump Programme as well as providing general diabetic care to the Mid-West Region.
The cardiology team within paediatrics service supports care closer to home for cardiology patients and works closely with CHI colleagues.
The paediatric emergency department is located in the main emergency department and caters for an average of 50 to 65 children per day.
The Play Department provides playroom facilities inclusive of play specialists who provide therapeutic and specialised play to children using the services. This provides a holistic approach to care.
The Childrens School is a Department of Education and Skills school catering for the on-going education of children from the ages of 4 to 19 in UL hospital. It is a multi-denominational school based in a purpose built school in the Childrens Ark Unit
