JOB TITLE: Specialist-Curriculum SLAR
REPORTS TO: Director-Elementary Curriculum
WAGE/HOUR STATUS: Exempt

PRIMARY PURPOSE:
The SLAR Curriculum Specialist works in collaboration with Curriculum Director to develop the curriculum of the district to provide leadership and campus support for the advancement of student achievement in his/her content area. The Curriculum Specialist writes and develops the curricula to support the assigned content provides coaching to campuses and ensures alignment of assessments.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
- Bachelors Degree from an accredited college or university
- Bilingual (English and Spanish)
- Five years job-related experience
Preferred:
- Masters Degree from an accredited college or university
- Leadership experience at the campus level and/or district level
- Professional development design and presentation experience
- Valid Texas teaching certificate (preferably in the assigned content area)
- Five years classroom experience
- Experience with multiple grade levels

- Expertise in SLA curriculum instruction and assessment
- Exceptional knowledge of effective teaching strategies and classroom environments
- Evidence of success in academically advancing gifted and talented students English Language Learners and students with special needs in an inclusive environment
- Excellent organization communication and interpersonal skills
- Skilled in the area of planning and presenting professional learning
- Ability to facilitate and coordinate district functions
- Understanding of the instructional needs of 21st century learners
- Works effectively with and lead adult learners
- Strong technology skills including technology integration
- Ability to multi-task
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Analyzes data and identifies the appropriate instructional response to data trends
- Remain current on educational research and instructional best practices and apply research and data to daily work
- Attends weekend and evening events associated with SLA programs
- Collaborates with the Curriculum & Instruction Director to develop review and revise SLA curriculum and assessments aligned to state standards and district goals
- Analyzes student performance data to identify trends and determine instructional adjustments to close achievement gaps
- Designs facilitates and evaluates professional development for teachers instructional coaches and campus administrators related to SLA curriculum instruction and assessment
- Provides job-embedded coaching and modeling of effective instructional practices in classrooms across multiple campuses
- Supports vertical and horizontal curriculum alignment across grade levels and feeder patterns
- Leads and participates in curriculum writing projects including scope and sequence unit planning and resource alignment
- Ensures instructional materials and resources are culturally responsive rigorous and supportive of dual-language and bilingual programs
- Works collaboratively with English RLA curriculum specialist to ensure alignment across grade levels and feeder patterns
- Works collaboratively with the bilingual/ESL department to ensure compliance with state and federal guidelines related to language instruction
- Assists in the selection and implementation of high-quality instructional materials and digital tools
- Supports campuses in implementing district-wide instructional initiatives and programs to improve SLA academic achievement
- Develops tools and resources to assist teachers with lesson planning differentiated instruction and formative assessment practices
- Collaborates with assessment and accountability teams to ensure assessments are valid reliable and aligned with instructional goals
- Observes classroom instruction and provides feedback to support improved teacher effectiveness and student outcomes
- Supports campus leadership teams in developing and implementing campus improvement plans related to SLA instruction
- Serves as a liaison between schools and central office departments to communicate curriculum updates instructional priorities and district initiatives
- Participates in district-level committees task forces and strategic planning efforts related to curriculum and instruction
- Performs all other duties as assigned
WORKING CONDITIONS:
The usual and customary methods of performing the jobs functions require the following physical demands: physical mobility standing prolonged sitting some lifting carrying pushing and/or pulling. This position will also require both traveling within the district and state wide. Mental demands: Ability to solve problems and deal with a variety of situations; ability to interpret a variety of data; ability to interpret TEC and policy; ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory of instructional programs; ability to be effective in both oral and written communication; ability to maintain emotional control under stress.
