Muscatine Schools is hiring a Special Education Aide for Muscatine High School. This Special Education Aide will support students in the Project Search program at various internship locations throughout the community. This Para will support Project Search students by assisting them in various ways throughout their work days. This is a unique Para position and the person in this Special Education position as the only Para support for these Project Search students will be expected to have excellent attendance.
This position is scheduled for 6.25 hrs/day (6 hours 15 minutes per day) Monday through Friday with an approximate schedule of 8am - 2:45pm. Starting pay for this position is $16.93/ preferred or highly desirable.

FUNCTIONAL AREA: Support Staff
REPORT TO: Principal; Special Education Teacher
STATUS: Hourly Nine (9) month position
FLSA STATUS: Non-exempt
Normal Work Day:
The schedule of a Special Education Para is based upon both the number of students the Individual Education Program (IEP) of each of the students and the need of the students. These positions may begin/end with very little notice. The District sets the total paid hours for each position based on the recommendation of the Director of Teaching and Learning.
CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
May be required to be certified to administer to take Chapter 103 Training Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training (includes preventative strategies de-escalation skills and communication techniques) which will be provided through internal training. May receive other training(s) as required.
OBJECTIVE:
Assist classroom teacher in helping students to increase their academic and behavioral goals and social skills.
MAJOR DUTIES:
Under direction of professional staff supervise and assist students individually or in group settings as follows:

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds 0 to 12 feet and occasionally up to 20 feet such as curriculum materials desks chairs and boxes. The employee will sometimes push/pull items such as tables and carts. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision color vision and the ability to adjust focus while supervising students and working with computers written materials reports assessment data etc.

The noise level in the work environment is usually position requires the commitment of professional working hours that may require the employee to extend beyond a typical 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. employee will frequently work in different areas of the classroom including in/at desks on or near the floor standing in movement while supervising indoor and outdoor activities employee will usually work in indoor temperatures but will work outdoors when supervising students outside of the classroom.
