Our Environmental Programs and Assessment Restoration Planning (EPA-RP) Group is seeking multiple managers to lead a variety of environmental initiatives and projects.
Please note that this role is an 18-month contract.
What will I be doing
- Oversee various environmental initiatives such as tree surveys and inventories natural heritage studies species at risk assessments and restoration plans to deliver capital infrastructure projects for GO Expansion Rapid Transit and Subways.
- Advise internal business units on environmental legislation and regulations and lead the implementation of the Metrolinx Vegetation Guideline into all phases of project development including EA processes project design and delivery including procurement reviews.
- Provide subject matter expertise for tree surveys and inventories vegetation removals species at risk restoration plans monitoring wildlife habitat and invasive species management.
- Represent Metrolinx where sensitive vegetation impacts occur and restoration plans are required to municipalities Indigenous communities and the public for capital project delivery.
- Track and report on complex technical information and ensure capital projects are meeting Metrolinx Vegetation Guideline commitments (e.g. status of tree inventories restoration plans species at risk habitat creation) for successful decision-making.
- Support project delivery teams by providing oversight of scope to ensure appropriate deliverables in relation to vegetation impacts and restoration plans.
- Assist project teams with obtaining permits and other regulatory approvals.
- Work with partners such as conservation authorities municipalities and other organizations to broker and implement restoration opportunities.
- Work with stakeholders and Indigenous communities to establish compensation plantings in areas of removal and establish mechanisms for seed collection and tree end use where feasible.
- Support Tree Giveaways and Metrolinx communications teams with public messaging regarding tree removals and environmental impacts as well as restoration commitments.
- Support environmental oversight and resolution of environmental issues for construction projects delivered using traditional P3 and progressive contracts.
- Lead a group of technical professionals to ensure timely delivery of projects and programs and foster a continuous improvement approach to ensure deliverables are on time and budget.
What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need
- Completion of a degree in Environmental Science Biology Ecology Natural Resource Management or a related discipline or a combination of education training and experience deemed equivalent.
- Demonstrates related experience in the field of Environmental Science including leading a team of professionals.
- Good working knowledge of Excel GIS PowerPoint and demonstrated ability to enter track and report on arborist report and monitoring report data including invasive species management and planting success.
- Demonstrated experience and technical expertise completing natural heritage studies restoration plans and monitoring EAs and other environmental studies for infrastructure projects preferably in the government or transportation sector.
- Leadership experience successfully coaching mentoring and managing a team of professionals in support of professional development and project delivery.
- Experience effectively liaising with regulatory bodies at all levels of government (e.g. federal agencies provincial ministries conservation authorities municipalities) Indigenous communities and stakeholder groups.
- Knowledge of Ontario and Canadian applicable law including relating to EA process natural environment and species at risk.
- Excellent human relations skills and experience working with and supporting buy-in from various stakeholder groups especially during public Indigenous Community and stakeholder engagement during contentious capital undertakings.
- Sound knowledge of management/project management principles including budget and schedule controls leading cross-functional teams and consultants engaged in simultaneous projects.
- Must successfully complete environmental safety and all other training required by corporate policy.
- A valid Ontario Class G drivers license is required to travel to various site locations meetings etc. Must meet and maintain the corporate standard for a good driving record.
