About the Position:
A Day in the Life Consists of:
As a Property & Evidence Technician I (FLEX) with the City of San Bernardino your day will focus on supporting the Police Department by maintaining the integrity security and documentation of property and evidence. Youll follow strict chain-of-custody procedures and ensure all items are handled according to legal and safety standards. Your day may include:
Receiving tagging and cataloging evidence and property into the departments records management system.
Safely storing a wide variety of items including firearms narcotics biological samples and hazardous materials.
Retrieving and releasing evidence to authorized personnel for investigations or court proceedings.
Assisting officers in the field with evidence collection and transport.
Preparing evidence for destruction return or auction following case resolution.
Conducting inventory audits and maintaining accurate records for compliance.
Performing general housekeeping duties in the property room and ensuring safe organized storage.
Participating in ongoing training to stay current on best practices and legal requirements.

Education and Experience:
High School diploma or G.E.D.;
AND
At least one (1) year of responsible storekeeping or warehousing experience in a large warehouse/ storeroom facility; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Experience in a police agency is preferred.
Property and Evidence Technician Is are expected to be capable of advancing to Property and Evidence Technician II within a 12- to 24-month period depending on the employees prior experience and progression in performing the full range of duties of Property and Evidence Technician II as described in the established criteria.
Licenses Certifications and Equipment:
A valid California drivers license is required.
An IAPE Property and Evidence Specialist Certification is highly desirable.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment:
The employee regularly works in a property and evidence room environment and may work around moving equipment. The employee may be required to work in high precarious places and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The noise level is frequently loud and subject to vibrations. The employee is occasionally exposed to outdoor weather conditions such as wet or humid conditions. While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently required to stand walk and sit; talk or hear in person and by telephone and to distinguish equipment operating sound; use hands to manipulate handle feel or operate computers objects tools or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to climb or balance; and bend stoop kneel or squat. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and frequently lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision distance vision peripheral vision depth perception color vision and the ability to adjust focus.
