Job Description

TARGET START DATE: July 2025

ESTIMATED HRS/WK: 40 hours/week

LOCATION: Washington DC Office / Virtual

REPORTS TO: Director of Membership and Community Engagement

STATUS: Full-Time

SALARY: $60-$65k Annually

The National Association for Family Child Care (NAFCC) is a nationwide nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting high-quality child care by strengthening the profession of family child care serving nearly one million paid home-based early learning programs. Since 1982 NAFCC has supported educators making the intentional professional choice to offer early care and education in their homes.


The Manager of Member Engagement and Leadership Initiatives plays a critical leadership role in advancing NAFCCs membership growth digital engagement and leadership cultivation strategies. This role is responsible for leading and managing engagement structures for state representatives affiliates and caucuses as well as revitalizing digital platforms and coordinating the visibility of member benefits. The Manager will oversee key projects including the Affiliate Program member benefit access and forum navigation ensuring that family child care educators have meaningful pathways to connect lead and thrive.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES

Membership and Community Engagement

  • Build authentic relationships across diverse FCC educator communities and serve as a mentor and connector to elevate their leadership and engagement.
  • Lead the development and implementation of regional membership initiatives and outreach plans tailored to growth benchmarks and local dynamics.
  • Coordinate digital and in-person outreach activities including community events NAFCC-sponsored and supported meet and greets email campaigns workshops and social media engagement in collaboration with the communications and marketing department.
  • Collaborate with the NAFCC teams to amplify member stories and promote NAFCC membership benefits.
  • Support the integration and promotion of member benefits including resource access member-only events and platform tools.
  • Participate in the implementation of strategic planning and contribute to annual conference planning and implementation.
  • Support data tracking engagement outcomes platform analytics and member feedback to improve future efforts.
  • Assist in preparing the membership departments budget and reports.
  • Other membership-related and cross-functional projects as assigned.

Affiliate and Leadership Support

  • Work directly with the Director of Membership to implement a national leadership development and affiliate support strategy.
  • Design and facilitate support strategies trainings communications and coaching sessions for NAFCCs network of affiliate partners and caucus leaders. Additionally provide support for the NAFCC State Representatives network.
  • Create clear structures onboarding tools and communication channels to ensure strong leadership pipelines and alignment with NAFCCs mission.
  • Support the creation of a peer mentorship curriculum model for leadership in family child care.
  • Manage relationships with affiliate leaders and provide continuous support in membership development strategic planning and visibility efforts.
  • Foster collaboration and connection across leadership groups through forums newsletters virtual meetings and conference sessions.
  • Contribute to the development of a data-informed membership innovation strategy by identifying regional trends and opportunities for engagement.
  • Act as a connector across departments ensuring leadership and member feedback informs programming and outreach.

Technology & Systems Support

  • Spearhead the transition and onboarding strategy for NAFCCs new member platform including data migration support team training and timeline management.
  • Develop and manage a project plan using to launch and implement robust member forums that focus on peer-to-peer engagement resource sharing and leadership visibility.
  • Work in collaboration with the Membership support staff to oversee the ongoing improvement and usability of NAFCCs digital tools and CRM (e.g. i4a or future platforms) providing training and technical support as needed.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to build and maintain a comprehensive Benefits Navigator ensuring members can access their benefits easily and understand how to maximize their value.
  • Identify and incorporate modern tools including AI-enhanced or automated systems to increase operational efficiency and member experience.
  • Support the tracking of digital engagement metrics and user feedback to improve systems and inform platform enhancements.
  • Serve as a go-to tech liaison across departments for membership-facing systems and digital tools.

REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Deep commitment to NAFCCs mission and belief in the value of Family Child Care

Bilingual and multicultural experience strongly preferred

Demonstrated experience in community organizing leadership development or nonprofit engagement work coaching and adult education.

Experience with training in person and on virtual platforms.

Familiarity with the early childhood education field especially home-based care

Strong technological skills and comfort navigating digital platforms CRM systems and virtual collaboration tools. Understanding of data reports and ability to make recommendations based on membership trends.

Experience in project ownership program coordination and independent execution of complex initiatives

Excellent written verbal and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to clearly communicate and disseminate information that reflects and honors the FCC field

Proven ability to build and maintain strong respectful relationships with colleagues family child care educators and community partners

Highly organized and self-directed with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced remote environment

Ability to synthesize and explain complex projects and ideas with a high-level understanding of NAFCCs programs and strategic direction

Demonstrated emotional intelligence empathy and cultural responsiveness in working with diverse teams and communities

Experience and comfort with navigating varying personalities and work styles.

Bachelors degree with a minimum of 3 years of relevant professional experience
