Job Description

Faulconer-Chapman School is seeking a Science teacher that will spend half their time teaching middle school science and the other half of their time teaching STEM elective courses to grades 4-8. Elective course offerings will be determined by teacher expertise and district need.

AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:

  • Development of skill and understanding of subject area in assigned students.
  • Knowledge of instructional methodologies effective with secondary students.
  • Provide a classroom experience which contributes to individual and group excellence.
  • Promotethe development of character leadership cooperation and respect for others that will make thestudents a better citizen.
  • Establishing an effective classroom environment conducive to learning and personal growth;
  • Collaborating closely with other middle school science teachers to support vertical alignment and instructional consistency.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Teaches district approved curriculum.
  • Instructs pupils in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district.
  • Develops lesson plans and instructional material and provides individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil.
  • Translates lesson plans into developmentally appropriate learning experiences.
  • Communicates regularly with parents outside normal classroom day by means of newsletters notes phone calls conferences etc.
  • Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior to achieve an effective learning atmosphere.
  • Evaluates students academic and social growth keeps appropriate records and prepares progress reports.
  • Identifies student needs and makes appropriate referrals and develops strategies for individual education plans.
  • Is available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day.
  • Plans and coordinates the work of Instructional Assistants parents and volunteers in the classroom and on field trips.
  • Provides individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of the student.
  • Creates an environment for learning through functional and attractive displays interest centers and exhibits of students work.
  • Participates in school-wide STEM initiatives and professional development opportunities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Supervises classroom and students.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Completion of course work satisfying the requirement for issuance of a valid Oregon Teaching License with appropriate endorsement in the designated assignment.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach students to be successful learners through student teacher internship or temporary/regular teaching experience.
  • Knowledge of developmentally appropriate instructional strategies for upper elementary and middle grades.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Valid Oregon Teaching License with proper endorsement demonstrated abilities (written and/or oral) to plan classroom instruction around District philosophy goals and learner outcomes.
  • Educational training in secondary education
  • Experience with STEM curriculum or project-based learning is desirable.
  • Demonstrated skill in integrating technology into science instruction.
