Located 20km west of Sydney on Dharug country with a population of 240000 residents Cumberland City Council is the fourth most populous Local Government Area in Greater Sydney. ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
The Environmental and Development Services team monitor public health related businesses who provide food and beauty services to the community along with places of public access such as public swimming pools making sure they are safe for the Cumberland Council residents. This team is also responsible for regulating compliance throughout the LGA ensuring that amenity and general safety is achieved monitoring building compliance and fire safety. All of these services allow residents and visitors to the area to enjoy and feel safe within our Council area.
The Executive Environmental Health Officer provides services related to Environmental Health including public health food safety and environmental issues and related technical advice to managers and other staff of council. This role is also responsible for undertaking specific environmental health projects as and when required.
Reporting to the Coordinator Environmental Health this role as well as other members of the Council ensure that the organisation meets all of its Legislative Management Plan and Budgetary requirements.
The successful applicant will require:
- Degree level qualifications in Environmental Health or equivalent
- Current class C drivers licence
- NSW General Construction Induction Card (White Card)
- Sound knowledge of environmental health best practices
- Sound knowledge of the relevant Environmental Health legislation including Protection of theEnvironment Operations Act 1997 Food Act 2003 (and Food Safety Standards) Public Health Act 2010 Local Government Act 1993 and all Regulations made thereunder
- Experience in implementing inspection programs for food surveillance regulated systems and skin penetration premises (including tattooists beauty salons hairdressers and acupuncturists)
- Experience in providing advice and recommending legal actions for legislative breaches overseeing the preparation of evidence and affidavits for legal proceedings briefing legal representatives and appearing in court as needed
- High level of leadership skills with a proven ability to role model values and behaviors
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Excellent conflict resolution and negotiation skills
- Experience in leading investigations into complex environmental monitoring ensuring timelyresponses to pollution incidents pollution investigations and enforcement procedures
- Experience in preparing letters memos reports and presentations on issues relevant to environmental health matters to a wide audience including Coordinator Manager and customers
- Experience with the environmental assessment of Development Applications
- Computer literacy.

About this role:
- Permanent full-time position
- 35 hour week
- Access to Councils 9 day fortnight Accrued Day Off (ADO)
- Located at Councils Auburn office with frequent travel required across Council worksites and may be required to work across any of Councils work locations
Salary information: The salary and conditions of employment are in accordance with the NSW Local Government (State) Award.
- Grade 14 of the Cumberland Salary Structure with a salary range of $2235.94 to $2571.33 per week plus 11.5% superannuation
- The commencing salary will be negotiated taking into consideration the successful applicants qualifications skills and experience related to the role

What youll need to have for this role:
- The right to live and work in Australia
- Be able to provide information for pre-employment checks required for the position including attending a physical pre-employment medical examination as required
- Participate in health monitoring as outlined in the risk assessment for this position and Councils Health Monitoring Procedure as required
- Provide evidence of your vaccination status as part of the employment screening process in accordance with Councils COVID-19 Vaccination Procedure.
