Location/Assignment: QHS CTE / Health Science Nursing Assistant Program Teacher/Nursing Assistant Program Director (Grades 9-12)
Conditions of work: .33 (2.4 hours) 180 days
SUMMARY:
The job of a high school CTE teacher is to implement industry-based instruction and incorporate all aligned essential standards when preparing to teach and instruct students to promote student achievement to provide guidance counsel supervision and discipline to students and to assess and evaluate performance and progress to enhance effective learning.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Ability to organize and complete detailed paperwork to maintain DSHS DOH State and local program standards and requirements is critical.
- Actively guide students through state-approved curriculum and skills labs to be prepared for clinical experiences at local medical facilities.
- Organize and place students in supervised clinical experiences at local medical facilities as part of the Nursing Assistant preparation program.
- Completion of adult instruction course or documentation of experience training adults and experience supervising Nursing Assistants
- Knowledge and ability to design curriculum to meet established competencies regarding OSPI approved Health Sciences Curriculum Frameworks.
- Collaborate with the departmental team to update curriculum Career Pathways State Approved Equivalencies and Industry Recognized Certificates (IRCs) along with incorporating Work Based Learning activities in all classes.
- Actively guide students through the Health Sciences Pathways with a focus on introducing them to internship mentorship or apprenticeship opportunities in our community.
- Provide active leadership and direction for the Health Science Advisory Committee and the development of the Health Science four-year plan.
- Provide active leadership guidance supervision and Advisor teamwork in the HOSA Program.
- Provide active leadership/follow through during your rotation as Go To Advisor and Go To CTSO Advisor.
- Center instruction on high expectations for student achievement.
- Demonstrate effective teaching practices.
- Recognize individual student learning needs and develop strategies to address those needs.
- Provide clear and intentional focus on subject matter content and curriculum.
- Foster and manage a safe positive learning environment for all students.
- Use multiple student data elements to modify instruction and improve student learning.
- Communicate and collaborate with parents and the school community.
- Exhibit collaborative and collegial practices focused on improving instructional practice and student learning.
- Assist in establishing and maintaining Dual Credit articulation agreement(s).
- Extracurricular stipend will be paid for extracurricular work that is required of this position as an advisor for the career and technical student organization HOSA
- Excellent attendance and punctuality required
- Assist students in developing self-esteem and responsible behaviors; model appropriate behavior; maintain and provide fair and consistent classroom management.
- Acknowledge discuss rewards and correct student behavior; discipline students as necessary and maintain student safety.
- Evaluate and record student progress; prepare progress and grade reports as required; administers tests as necessary.
- Attend or participate in all required staff meetings committees team building field trips and other activities (may include overnight stay) deemed necessary by the district building administration and/or CTE director in order to accomplish the objectives of the position and for professional achievement.
- Perform related tasks consistent with the scope and responsibility of the position.
- Must have good human relations and interpersonal skills demonstrated ability to keep confidentiality and show initiative when appropriate.
- Other duties as assigned by the CTE Director Building Principal or Superintendent.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Possess or qualify for immediate issuance of a valid Washington State teaching certificate with appropriate endorsement(s):
- Career & Technical Education Certificate in Health Sciences.
- Bachelors Degree required
- Current WA license as an RN in good standing with no action against that license for working with vulnerable populations and with experience required by DSHS and DOH to be qualified as a Program Director and Instructor
- 3 years experience as RN
- 1 year in direct patient care
- 1 year caring for elderly or chronically ill
- Documentation of experience training adults and experience supervising Nursing Assistants preferred.
- Recent RN experience within the last 5 year is preferred
- Commitment to the education profession as evidenced by participation in curriculum development projects District or building-level committees professional organizations and by evidence of continuing education.
- Previous teaching experience in Health Sciences preferred
- Ability and willingness to work effectively with peers in a professional learning community (PLC)
- Ability and willingness to work with both middle and high school age students is essential.
- Certified or willingness to become certified in work-based learning and experience coordinating and supervision of work-based learning experiences in Career Education preferred.
- Willingness and flexibility to teach courses as assigned within the Health Sciences umbrella of offerings
- Currently have or will have earned by the start date a valid First Aid/CPR with AED certification required.
- Knowledge (and experience desired) in providing active leadership guidance and supervision for students in QHSHOSA Chapter
- Use a variety of instructional strategies to provide equity and excellence with students of all ability levels in a diverse student population.
- Incorporate a wide variety of industry skills and competencies into daily lessons and course framework development for students having a wide range of achievement.
- Skillfully use and demonstrate the classroom equipment and tools to students while overseeing their safety.
- Strong technical and word processing skills required coupled with competently utilizing technology in the classroom daily.
- Proficiency in reading writing and oral communications while working cooperatively with other CTE teachers in developing and sharing curriculum strategies.
- Establish and maintain effective positive communication and working relationships with students parents or guardians staff and administrators.
- Ability to deal with students in a positive and confident manner; be fair and consistent when working with a culturally racially and economically diverse student population; adapt to change and remain flexible; organize activities; manage student behavior; use good judgment to maintain a safe learning environment; provide instruction and demonstrate techniques.
- Provide active leadership and direction for the HealthScience Advisory Committee and the development of the QHSHealth Science Department five-year plan.
- Commit to the education profession as evidenced by participation in curriculum development projects district or building level committees professional organizations and by evidence of continuing education.
- Set and maintain high expectations of students.
- Ability to gain respect and confidence of students and community through the modeling of appropriate behavior methods and attire.
- Ability to meet and maintain punctuality and attendance expectations.
