HYDROGEOLOGISTS / HYDROLOGISTS
ICF is seeking motivated Hydrogeologists/Hydrologists to support an EPA contract the Environmental Services Assistance Team (ESAT) across the country. The team performs soil water air waste and biota sampling and analysis for chemical contaminants primarily supporting Superfund site assessment remediation and emergency response projects but also for compliance under the Safe Drinking Water Act and the Clean Water Act. Additional support provided by the team includes field sampling and analysis biological support risk assessment sample receipt and tracking maintenance and monitoring of laboratory support equipment chemical and supply inventory environmental compliance activities warehouse support and analytical subcontracting.
Job Description
ICF is looking for passionate dedicated Hydrogeologists/Hydrologists to join our varied team of scientists. The Hydrogeologist/Hydrologist will work closely with other scientists chemists biologists risk assessors and project managers. The individual will perform site-specific data collection activities to support hydrogeologic characterizations at contaminated sites including development of work plans Sampling and Analysis Plans (SAPs) Quality Assurance Project Plans (QAPPs) and other elements of coordination planning and data collection in support of site characterization and remediation activities.
We are seeking candidates for the various federal government laboratories across the US to include Denver CO; Houston TX; Kansas City KS; Athens GA; Chelmsford MA; Edison NJ; Corvallis OR; Seattle WA; Ft. Meade MD; Chicago IL.
What You Will Do
Participate in planning activities including meetings conference calls and/or site visits to support the development of project objectives study designs and schedules.
Prepare project-specific work plans SAPs and QAPPs in adherence with relevant EPA guidance.
Mobilize for and conduct monitoring well sampling soil and groundwater sampling biota sampling (fish and benthic invertebrate) and any other applicable techniques to collect environmental samples used to assess the nature and extent of contaminants in soil and groundwater and support human health and ecological risk assessments.
Collect field observations and field mapping parameters.
Prepare groundwater hydrology assessments and review analyses prepared by other parties including evaluation of groundwater and contaminant transport application and/or review of models to predict the fate and transport of groundwater contaminants evaluation of surface water interactions with groundwater and the effects of implementation of cleanup technologies on groundwater contamination.
Prepare sampling activity reports for sampling events.
Describe projects and interpret analyses through written and oral communication to a wide audience.
Manage tasks and projects including working with other managers and a team of technical staff from multiple disciplines to complete field projects analyses modeling and reporting on time and within budget.
Basic Qualifications
Bachelors or Masters degree in geology hydrogeology hydrology environmental science or equivalent technical field.
4 years of relevant hydrogeology and hydrology experience including field sampling at Superfund and other types of contaminated sites.
Knowledge of relevant national and regional EPA cleanup programs guidance and regulations including the Comprehensive Environmental Compensation and Liability Act (CERCLA) the National Contingency Plan the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) the Clean Water Act the Safe Drinking Water Act and related regulations.
OSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPER certification.
US citizenship is required per federal contract requirements.
Must be able to pass an EPA background check to obtain access to US federal property.
What Wed Like You to Have
Experience with the investigation and remediation of former mining sites and sites with emerging contaminants (e.g. Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances PFAS).
Strong analytical skills and ability to interpret and describe hydrogeologic hydrologic and contaminant fate and transport data including experience conducting quantitative analyses using Microsoft Excel; experience with R Python AI and data visualization tools a plus.
Team leadership skills: Set high personal performance and quality standards and work in a team environment; view all team members as critical and treat team members with respect and professionalism; ability to collaborate and leverage team member strengths
Expertise and passion for science natural resources and resolving complex problems.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills with an ability to accurately and effectively express results of analyses to technical and non-technical audiences sometimes in stressful and contentious settings.
Team player with demonstrated task and project management skills including the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Demonstrated ability to effectively engage with clients.
