QUALIFICATIONS:
Certification by Kentucky Department of Education with proper endorsement plus responsible experience in teaching and supervision or any equivalent combination of experience or training.

PRIMARY JOB GOAL:
To instruct students in physical education activities; to teach individual and team sports health hygiene and family life education; to provide a balance of skills concepts games educational gymnastics rhythms and dance experiences designed to enhance the cognitive motor affective and physical fitness development of every child; to provide activities which emphasize self-improvement participation and cooperation.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Comprehensive knowledge of principles and practices of modern public school physical education and the ability to apply them to the needs of the school/district; knowledge of current content curriculum materials instructional practices and equipment as they relate to KERA and physical education; knowledge of child/adolescent growth and development; ability to plan organize and coordinate the components of physical education; ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing; ability to develop effective working relationships with the entire school community; commitment to education reform; must possess sufficient strength dexterity endurance agility and skill to carry out the program of studies for the activities to which assigned; must be adaptable to working conditions which are at times moderately uncomfortable (temperature) and which require adaptation of clothes and dress to the conditions; ability to be flexible to adjust the instructional program to any unanticipated interruptions/changes.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
-Maintains at all times an orderly learning atmosphere and keeps the Principal fully informed of the physical education programs activities and problems.
-Plans and teaches a comprehensive physical education health hygiene and family life education instructional program or one portion thereof; employs a variety of instructional techniques.
-Organizes leads instructs and referees indoor and outdoor games or athletic activities.
-Instructs individuals or groups in beginning or advanced calisthenics gymnastics or corrective exercises determining type and level of difficulty of exercises corrections needed and appropriate movements.
-Applies knowledge of sports physiology and corrective techniques.
-Teaches and demonstrates use of apparatus and equipment.
-Specializes in instructing a specific sport or athletic activity as assigned.
-Teaches physical education to physically mentally or emotionally disabled students adapting teaching techniques and methods of instruction to meet individual needs of students.
-Adapts activities for disabled students and assists other staff in rehabilitation programs for students.
-Plans curriculum and prepares lesson plans and other materials considering factors such as individual needs abilities learning levels and physical limitations of students; recommends appropriate curriculum guidelines to the schools SBDM Council.
-Works cooperatively with the administration other teachers support personnel and the SBDM Council in planning instructional goals objectives and methods.
-Collaborates with other staff members where appropriate on integrating the physical education program into thematic units.
-Arranges and adjusts equipment utilized by students; maintains proper inventories of non-expendable school supplies materials and equipment assigned to the classroom.
-Controls the storage and use of school-owned property; makes minor adjustments and requests repairs to equipment as required.
-Ensures students are dressed appropriately for activities.
-Monitors locker rooms dressing areas and/or showers to ensure proper behavior; monitors student behavior in other noninstructional areas and intervenes to control and modify disruptive behavior reporting to appropriate administrator as required.
-Assists the administration in implementing all policies and/or rules governing student life and conduct and develops reasonable rules of behavior and procedure; maintains order in a fair and just manner.
-Confers with other members of the staff to develop programs to maximize student potential.
-Instructs pupils in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district.
-Controls the storage and use of school-owned property; makes minor adjustments and requests repairs to instruments as required.
-Provides guidance to pupils which will promote their welfare and educational development.
-Evaluates student progress on a regular basis.
-Communicates with parents teachers and school counselors on pupil progress.
-Identifies pupil needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve health attitude and learning problems.
-Makes provisions for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes including under reasonable terms time outside the instructional day.
-Maintains professional competence through professional development activities provided by the district/consortia and in self-directed professional growth activities related to physical education.
-Takes an active part in the professional development program of the school and district and participates in the planning and evaluation of the schools programs of study and extra-curricular activities.
-Always maintains the highest professional standards in personal conduct.
-Attends faculty meetings and Parent/Teacher Organization meetings; serves on staff and SBDM Council committees as assigned.
-Performs related duties and assumes other responsibilities as may be assigned by the Principal or the Superintendent.
