Job Description

Summary

As a Paralegal Assistant you are a part of a team working directly with Attorneys and other Paralegals representing employers in sponsoring foreign workers for immigration sponsorship. Primary responsibilities include assisting in case processing by drafting immigration forms support letters and various correspondences including interfacing with clients in person over the phone and via email. Critical duties include organization attention to detail strong research and writing skills able to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment to meet deadlines.

Required Education & Experience

Completion of one of the following:

  • Associate of Arts degree (b) an educational program for Paralegals that has been approved by the American Bar Association (ABA) or offered by an accredited institution which is in substantial compliance with ABA guidelines for the approval of Paralegal programs
  • AND not less than one year of in-house training as a Paralegal Assistant or Paralegal Intern OR (c) two to five years of law-related experience under the supervision of an attorney or Paralegal demonstrating a superior command of the skills necessary to be a Paralegal Assistant

Preferred Education & Experience

  • Law Firm experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge in the following areas preferred:
    • Support Paralegal with PERM labor certification process and recruitment.
    • Draft H-1B and Labor Condition Applications and compliance; and
    • Draft TN Visa Application
    • Support Paralegal with drafting and compiling exhibits for P-1 and O-1 visa applications
    • Assist attorney with H-1B Lottery Registrations.
    • Draft Adjustment of Status Application.

Paralegal Assistant Responsibilities (75%)

  • Perform intake and case initiation once matter is assigned.
  • Draft Petitions/Applications and file with government agency.
  • Write detailed persuasive letters.
  • Analyze immigration documents of foreign national employee and family members.
  • Analyze the position requirements provided by the corporate client.
  • Maintain client contact information.
  • Provide status updates.
  • File documents in proper order.
  • Update case management system.
  • Learn procedural and processing requirements for various types of non-immigrant and immigrant visa petitions and applications.
  • Build knowledge of Firm and client processes.
  • Interface with clients in person over the phone and via email.

General and Administrative (25%)

  • Responsible for time entry scanning emailing scheduling and handling mail.
  • Update visa and expiration reports.
  • Assist in Firm marketing for practice area.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

    Supervisory Responsibility

    This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

    No travel is expected for this position.

    Work Environment & Physical Demands

    This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers phones photocopiers filing cabinets and fax machines. While performing the responsibilities of the position these work environment characteristics are representative of the environment the person in this position will encounter. While performing the duties of this job the employee will work in a professional fast paced office environment that may require additional hours to complete work.

    These physical demands are representative of the physical requirements necessary for an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the position. Generally due to the nature of this office position while performing the responsibilities of the position the employee is required to talk and hear.
