About the Role
WONCA is seeking a dynamic and proactiveProject Officerto join our Secretariat team in Brussels. This role is crucial in identifying and securing funding opportunities developing strategic partnerships and managing and supporting the implementation of our global health initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
The Project Officer will work under the authority of the WONCA CEO and collaborate closely with the Secretariat team. Key responsibilities include:
1. Funding Opportunity Identification:
- Proactively scout and identify relevant grant opportunities tenders and project calls from diverse global sources including international foundations philanthropic organizations UN agencies governmental development agencies corporate social responsibility programs and multilateral institutions
- Monitor global funding landscapes across multiple regions (Africa Asia-Pacific Americas Europe Middle East) and maintain a pipeline of potential opportunities aligned with WONCAs strategic priorities
- Analyze calls for proposals and assess their fit with WONCAs mission and capabilities
- Attend brokerage events and networking opportunities to position WONCA as a preferred partner
Writing and Proposal Development:
- Lead or support the development of high-quality grant proposals and funding applications
- Coordinate with internal teams and external partners to gather necessary information for proposals
- Ensure proposals meet all technical requirements and submission deadlines
- Develop budgets in collaboration with finance team
3. Project Management Support:
- Provide support to ongoing projects ensuring deliverables are met on time and within budget
- Assist with project reporting monitoring and evaluation activities across different regional contexts
- Coordinate with project partners and stakeholders across different time zones and cultures
- Support the implementation of new projects from inception through completion in diverse settings
4. Partnership Development:
- Build and maintain relationships with potential consortium partners across different regions and sectors
- Navigate diverse partnership landscapes including academic institutions NGOs government agencies and private sector entities globally
- Represent WONCA at relevant international meetings conferences and networking events
- Develop partnership agreements and memoranda of understanding respecting different legal and cultural contexts
5. Strategic Communication:
- Contribute to the development of concept notes and project briefs
- Support the dissemination of project outcomes and best practices
- Maintain project documentation and knowledge management systems
RequirementsEducation and Experience:
- Masters degree in project management public health international development or related field
- Minimum 3 years of experience in project implementation grant writing or similar roles
- Experience working with international organizations preferably in the health sector
- Experience with diverse funding sources (UN agencies bilateral donors foundations corporate funders) across multiple regions is highly desirable
- Understanding of global health challenges across different regions
Technical Skills:
- Excellent grant writing and proposal development skills
- Strong project management capabilities
- Proficiency in budget development and financial planning for projects
- Full IT proficiency (MS Office suite project management tools CRM systems)
- Experience with diverse funding mechanisms (bilateral/multilateral donors foundations corporate partnerships) is a strong asset
- Familiarity with major global health funders (WHO World Bank Gates Foundation Wellcome Trust etc.) is valuable
Language and Communication:
- Professional working proficiency in written and spoken English (at least C1 level)
- Additional languages are valuable assets
- Outstanding presentation and networking skills
- Ability to communicate complex ideas clearly to diverse audiences
