This position is the State Public Health Veterinarian serving as the subject matter expert for the preparedness
surveillance mitigation and outbreak response activities across a wide range of infectious diseases including (but not
limited to) zoonoses arboviruses emerging pathogens and multi-drug resistant organisms. This position serves as a key
leader in the state health departments infectious disease prevention and response efforts bringing specialized expertise in
veterinary medicine to address the critical intersection of animal and human health through a One Health approach. This
position has a focus on zoonotic and emerging infections and is the subject matter expert for state-level infectious disease
outbreak responses and shaping public health strategies. As a primary subject matter expert the position is the point of
contact resource for both in-state and out-of-state animal health partners federal agencies academic institutions
healthcare providers and local health departments. This position is vital in safeguarding public health in Michigan and
advancing collaborative solutions to complex infectious disease challenges as part of the states infectious disease
leadership team.
This position is housed within the MDHHS Division of Emerging Infectious Diseases. As the subject matter expert for
infectious disease prevention and response activities this position works across the Bureau of Infectious Disease
Prevention and the Public Health Administration of MDHHS as well as other state agencies such as the Department of
Agriculture and Rural Development and the Department of Natural Resources. This position is instrumental in statewide
infectious and zoonotic disease response efforts supporting MDHHS and all 45 local health jurisdictions to safeguard the
health of Michigans nearly 10 million residents.

Education
Possession of a doctorate degree in veterinary medicine.
Experience
Three years of professional experience equivalent to a Veterinarian P11 two years equivalent to a Veterinarian 12 or one year equivalent to a Veterinary Specialist 13.
Possession of a license to practice veterinary medicine in Michigan.
NOTE:Equivalent combinations of education and experience that provide the required knowledge skills and abilities will be evaluated on an individual basis.
Position Location/Remote Office: The physical location of this position is 333 S. Grand Ave. Lansing MI 48933. Based on operational needs and within established limits remote work and alternate or hybrid work schedule requests for this position may be considered. Selected candidates who have been approved to work remotely or a hybrid schedule must complete that work within Michigan. Candidates should confirm work location and schedule at the time of interview.
