The Broward County Board of County Commissioners is seeking qualified candidates for Safety & Occupational Health Manager.
General Description
Develops and manages a comprehensive Safety Occupational Health and Loss Control Program in support of the Countys Self Insurance Program.
Works under administrative supervision developing and implementing programs within organizational policies and reports major activities to executive level administrators through conferences and reports.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Requires a Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in industrial safety or hygiene public administration or closely related field.
Requires six (6) years of management experience in developing and managing comprehensive safety health and loss control program for a large governmental entity or private employer including two (2) years of supervisory experience.
Special Certifications and Licenses Required
Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP): Industrial Hygiene (ABIH) Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) or Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP) Certified Safety Professional (CSP).
Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Class E Drivers License for duration of appointment and pass the Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) background screening.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the job as necessary.
Develops and implements a program of review and analysis of loss data to identify accident trends and hazards and develops reports to upper management with specific recommendations to prevent losses and reduce claims frequency and costs.
Prepares and delivers technical reports to County agencies and upper management regarding hazard assessments accident investigations programs policies and procedures.
Manages the operations of the Countys Safety Occupational Health and Loss Control Programs by direction through subordinates the planning scheduling and coordination of safety health and loss control activities.
Provides technical expertise in environmental health safety and loss control standards and practices to subordinate staff and to County agencies.
Reviews and interprets applicable Federal State and local laws and regulations to ensure compliance through the development and implementation of policies and programs.
Reviews all of the loss control analyses and industrial hygiene assessments generated by staff and based on the data interprets for compliance identifies deficiencies in procedures and/or policy and revises or develops policy and/or procedures to address safety and health issues to ensure a safe and healthful workplace for the employees and the public.
