THE POSITION
The Department of Transportation is actively looking to hire a Driver License Examiner in Bensalem. This vital role involves serving as a PennDOT Driver License Examiner where the primary responsibility is to enhance highway safety through the administration of standardized tests that assess the skills and qualifications of applicants seeking non-commercial driver licenses. In addition to conducting these essential evaluations the examiner will also play a key role in assisting customers at the Driver License Center. A significant aspect of this position includes scrutinizing identity documents to prevent identity theft and fraud ensuring that the integrity of the licensing process is upheld. DESCRIPTION OF WORK
In this position you will assess the physical and driving qualifications of applicants as well as evaluate the mechanical condition of vehicles to ensure they meet the established safety standards for driving. You will conduct various vision tests including telebinocular and color perception assessments to gauge applicants visual capabilities. Additionally you will administer both non-commercial and commercial driver license knowledge examinations to verify that individuals possess a solid understanding of the Vehicle Code and traffic signage. Your responsibilities will also include conducting pre-trip skills and driving tests for non-commercial licenses in accordance with departmental guidelines while scrutinizing applications registrations and permits for any signs of irregularities or fraudulent activity. You will determine the specific characteristics of vehicles to ensure that the appropriate tests are administered and will inspect motor vehicles for compliance with safety features such as inspection stickers lights and windshield wipers.
Furthermore you will review a variety of documents including applications birth certificates Social Security cards marriage certificates court documents proof of residency and various immigration and citizenship documents to verify their authenticity. Utilizing multiple systems and databases you will authenticate identity documents to establish an individuals identity and eligibility for a drivers license or identification card while also identifying potential fraud and preventing identity theft. You will process test results and applications issuing driver licenses and identification cards to those who meet the eligibility criteria. In addition you will provide customers with essential information regarding drivers license renewals duplicates out-of-state transfers and the process for obtaining a motorcycle license or a commercial drivers license (CDL) including an understanding of the various restrictions and endorsements associated with commercial licenses. Upon request you will generate Restoration Requirements Letters for customers who appear in person ensuring clear communication of relevant information related to their inquiries.Interested in learning more Additional details regarding this position can be found in theposition description.
Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment 80 hours bi-weekly
- Work hours are 8:15 AM to 4:45 PM Tuesday - Saturday with 30-minute lunch.
- This position may require overtime and travel to other Driver License Centers when needed.
- Telework:You will not have the option to telework in this position.
- Salary:In some cases the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:- One year of experience as a Driver License Examiner Assistant (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title as determined by the Office of Administration); or
- Two years of experience obtaining evaluating and providing information to the public.
Special Requirements:- This position requires an active Pennsylvania non-commercial Class C Drivers License or equivalent and twenty-one years of age at the time of application.
- This position requires no suspensions or revocations of a drivers license during thefive-yearperiod immediately preceding employment.
- All employees in this job hired after February 28 2022 are required to obtain an active unrestricted Class M drivers license within the first six months of employment or before the end of the probationary period and maintain it during employment.
