Job Description

Overview

St. Lukes HealthSugar Land Hospital offers the latest technology and treatments for residents of Fort Bend County and Southwest Houston. Our services range from heart care and neuroscience to robotic surgery. Our recently opened Family Birthing Center offers incomparable care and amenities in a spa-like environment to provide a VIPVery Important Pregnancyexperience. Since 2008 our experienced doctors nurses and support staff have provided expert care to support our community.

Responsibilities

The RN in PACU utilizes the nursing process to identify patient needs and priorities of care through assessment planning and delegation of care based on patient needs post-anesthesia and evaluation of the patients response. Is held accountable for policies and procedures of the department and organization. This position supports the mission vision and philosophy of CommonSpirit Health.

  1. Maintain a knowledge base regarding sedation/analgesic and anesthetic agents and techniques physiologic and physiological response to the recovering patient.
  2. Assess plan intervention for and evaluate the physical and physiological response to analgesia; able to plan for the risks and the interventions for those risks associated with the administration of sedation analgesia and anesthetic agents.
  3. Assesses patients health and continuously monitors; detect changes in symptoms health or pain and take action as necessary; and quickly and accurately assess patient care needs.
  4. Responds to life saving situations based upon nursing standards policies procedures and protocol.
  5. Collaborates with other care staff to assure smooth transition for patient throughout the facility using proper hand off techniques.
  6. Administers medications IV therapy and treatments in compliance with policies and procedures.
  7. Provides patient and family education.
  8. Records all care information concisely accurately and completely in a timely manner in the appropriate format and on the appropriate forms.
  9. Orient and achieve competency from all areas of the Perioperative department.
  10. Maintains order stock and cleanliness of all areas of the department.
  11. Practices safe work habits compliance with safety rules and regulations and adheres to safety policies.
  12. Utilizes resources appropriately and follows facility guidelines policies and procedures.

Qualifications

  • Associates Degree Nursing required
  • At least one (1) year of RN experience required
  • Registered Nurse in the state of Texas
  • BLS required
  • ACLS (within 6 months)
  • Experience working in PACU preferred
