R&D Engineer III - Sustaining R&D

At Boston Scientific our products and technologies are used to diagnose or treat a wide range of medical conditions. We continue to innovate in key areas and are extending our innovations into new geographies and high-growth adjacency markets. Within the Urology Division Sustaining R&D organization we design and sustain technologies for treating a wide range of urology-based issues including implants for treatment of urinary incontinence and erectile dysfunction in addition to supporting evolving regulatory and standard requirements around product design.

Purpose Statement

As an R&D Engineer III you will develop direct and execute projects to maintain or improve products being marketed and sold by Boston Scientific. You will work cross-functionally to develop/modify products materials processes or equipment for projects of moderate complexity. You will compile analyze and report operational test and research data to establish performance standards for newly designed or modified products processes and materials. You will also perform design change analysis to determine impact to products design history file and ensure deliverables needed to support design changes are executed by you or cross-functional team members to achieve project goals.

Key Responsibilities

Successfully contribute to project teams typically including the following activities: design development design modification assessment experiment design and execution establishment of specifications and drawings test of materials/products research investigations team report-outs and report preparation and test documentation

Provide design engineering support for assigned Sustaining projects

Support or serve as a R&D lead within a project

Work independently to plan and schedule own activities necessary to meet timelines

Design and coordinate engineering tests experiments and test equipment for R&D purposes

Perform troubleshooting on products/process problems as related to design materials or process

Summarize analyze and draw conclusions from test results

Prepare standard reports/documentation to communicate results to technical community

Communicate and present project status and technical details to management

Responsible for engineering documentation

May train and/or provide work direction to lab technicians

Work cross-functionally with manager project management quality process development regulatory clinical and marketing personnel to ensure project success

Demonstrate strong design control knowledge and the Product Life Cycle through generation of high-quality deliverables

Minimum Required Qualifications:

Bachelors Degree or above in Engineering Biomedical or Mechanical engineering preferred

3 years of work experience in engineering (MS Degree may substitute for 1 years of experience)

1 years of experience with medical device product development or sustaining projects

Experience with Design Change Analysis for medical devices

Experience leading projects with cross-functional teams

Fundamental understanding of design controls and risk management within the medical device industry

Fundamental understanding of the Quality System per ISO 13485 or 21 CFR 820

Willingness to work onsite (4 days per week) at our Minnetonka MN (moving to Maple Grove Weaver Lake in 2026) site

Preferred Qualifications:

Biomedical or anatomical understanding of urological systems

Strong communication and collaboration skills

Strong statistical understanding and data analysis experience

Self-starter with the ability to work independently and with a team to plan schedule and execute activities necessary to meet project timelines to schedule and within budget

Experience working with cross-cultural teams

Experience with polymer-based medical devices (silicone-based preferred) is a plus

Technical Project Management experience is a plus

Experience with product lifecycle management systems (e.g. Windchill)

Base Salary Range

Minimum Salary: $76000

Maximum Salary: $144400

The anticipated compensation listed above and the value of core and optional employee benefits offered by Boston Scientific (BSC) see --will vary based on actual location of the position and other pertinent factors considered in determining actual compensation for the role. Compensation will be commensurate with demonstrable level of experience and training pertinent education including licensure and certifications among other relevant business or organizational needs. At BSC it is not typical for an individual to be hired near the bottom or top of the anticipated salary range listed above.

Compensation for exempt roles may also include variable compensation i.e. annual bonus target and long-term incentives (subject to plan eligibility and other requirements).
