Accessibility Advisor

• Work individually with students with a broad range of learning challenges such as clinically recognized disabilities and mental health cognitive and intellectual impediments in support of their learning needs and academic outcomes through customized learning strategies study skills and education success planning.
• Manage the recruitment and scheduling of ASL interpreters tutors exam proctors and/or note-takers as necessary.
• Interpret and implement the recommendations of psycho-educational assessments and other medical reports in collaboration with students to determine the appropriate course of action to support their learning needs and outcomes.
• Provide and facilitate training on assistive technology to students where the functional assessment of disability training-related need is indicated.
• Provide faculty with training and support on incorporating strategies in the classroom and studio to support learners with various needs.
• Work in collaboration with the Director of Teaching and Learning to support the knowledge acquisition and adoption of pedagogic best practices among faculty and instructors.
• Assist students with grant applications to provincial funding bodies where appropriate.
• Act as a resource to the University on student learning techniques and approaches to best practice for learning methods that support students with learning challenges especially those pertaining to art practice.
• Observe strict confidentiality guidelines for the collection use and maintenance of personal information of students supported by the Advisor and protect said information against unauthorized access collection use disclosure and disposal.
• Observe and implement legislative regulations and University policy pertaining to accommodation practices.

• Undergraduate university degree preferably in Education Adult Education Social Scoences Occupational Therapy or related discipline is required.
• Special Education or Inclusive Education designation is strongly encouraged.
• Lived experience with disability is considered an asset.
• Minimum of three (3) years related experience.
• Previous expereince working in the post-secondary environment setting with students living with a disability is am asset.
• Deepened understanding of the implications that disabilities have on an individuals ability to function in an academic and artistic setting and a willingness to advocate for students as necessary.
• Proven experience as an Advisor in a university or education setting is an asset.
• Experienced working knowledge of Microsoft Office tools are essential.
• Knowledge of JaneApp is an asset.
• Exceptional interpersonal oral written communication and soft skills are required.
