Under the direction of the Medical Director Medical Physicist and Radiation Oncologist the Radiation Therapist deliver accurate and therapeutic doses of external-beam radiation therapy to precisely defined targets for curative and palliative treatments of cancer/benign neoplasm patient populations.
ESSENTIAL KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Performs patients simulations under direction of physician which includes patient alignment portal marking and chart documentation.
2. Supply data for and assist in fabrication and/or designs patient immobilization and treatment devices such as vaculocks bolus and aquaplast masks.
3. Assist in dosimetry procedures including obtaining patient parameters.
4. Educates patients regarding simulation treatment procedures and possible reactions.
5. Observes patient for treatment reactions and reports reactions to physician.
6. Delivers prescribed planned course of radiation therapy which includes revie of prescriptions diagnosis and medical record and patient identification.
7. Prepares room and equipment for patient treatments including set-up of immobilization devices field sizes and treatment distance shielding devices etc.
8. Monitors patient and equipment during treatment and/or simulation reporting any unusual circumstances such as patient movement equiment malfunction etc.
9 Completes daily quality cheks on tretment and simulator equipment. Maintains accurat documentation of quality checks. Documents and reports all variances and initiates proper follow up.
10. Ensure that patient orientation and preparation (IVs/lab work) is provided prior during and following the test completion.
Education Required
Graduate of a Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) accredited program in Radiation Therapy or a suitable equivalent
Licensure/Certifcation Required
Licensed as a Medical Radiologic Technologist (MRT) with Texas Medical Board and Registered in Radiation Therapy R.T.(R)(T) through American Registry of Radiologic Technologists
BLS certification through an approved AHA program
Experience Required
One (1) year related work experience
Preferred: Two (2) years of related work experience
