Do you have the desire to make a meaningful impact in a vibrant and diverse community by serving in an elected officials office Apply your passion for public service in the City of Irvine Office of a Councilmember. The City is nationally ranked for safety educational institutions business enterprises and quality of life.

The Communications Aide leads the digital communications projects. Experience managing media communications is required to produce high-level written materials across digital media platforms The Communications Aide has the ability to coordinate visual written and oral communications into concise descriptive written/visual forms or media that relate the essential theme or objective. Strong writing skills and digital communications background is essential. This person also performs on-the-ground constituent casework problem-solves represents the Councilmember in neighborhoods at neighborhood and community meetings and events collaborates with city departments and completes daily projects. Your Impact

  • Manages Office media webpage and social media platforms.
  • Engages residents to inform them of helpful resources the City provides.
  • Ability to research technical information of various topics dealing with municipal government and develop clear summaries.
  • Represents the Office at community events/meetings. Accurately summarizes and coordinates follow-up requirements and develop draft letters and correspondence.
  • Drafts written materials including talking points newsletter media content press releases and more.
  • Provides constituent service and assistance to residents with questions comments or complaints including obtaining assistance from City departments or referrals to other government agencies.
  • Speaks publicly on behalf of the Councilmember and maintains an awareness of all community issues.
  • Plans and schedules tours of businesses nonprofits and community organizations.
  • Organizes all preparation execution and post-event efforts for community events.
  • Organizes and staffs Councilmember booth/table at City events and other organization events including distribution of City resources materials.
  • Creates certificates for recognizing residents businesses nonprofits and other important community stakeholders for various reasons (e.g. anniversary achievement or milestone).
  • Creates and develops an e-newsletter flyers for events and graphics for social media.
  • Prepare and edit correspondence reports memos and other documents.
  • Coordinate travel arrangements and itineraries for staff as needed.
  • Order office supplies and maintain inventory levels.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of office procedures.
  • Support the coordination and execution of events projects and meetings.
  • Maintain and update databases contact lists and mailing lists.
  • Conducts research and analysis on topics related to City policies procedures operational programs agenda items etc. and prepares oral and written reports of findings to individual members of the City Council.
  • Attends City business related meetings with and/or on behalf of individual City Council members as requested; assembles and distributes meeting follow-up information as requested.
  • Exercises appropriate judgment in answering questions and releasing information and in analyzing and projecting consequences of decisions and/or recommendations.
  • Frequent interactions with the constituency including responding and documenting constituent inquiries case management serves as first point of contact for all incoming electronic communications.

Best Fit

  • Bachelors degree in political science history communications business or related field.
  • Ability to understand local legislative and regulatory processes.
  • Experience managing multiple projects while meeting deadlines and staying organized.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills. Comfortable interacting with business leaders government officials and constituents.
  • Demonstrated strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • High level of personal drive and critical thinking.
  • Works well under pressure and able to work independently with a positive attitude.
  • Experience in event planning and managing lists/databases excel.

*The Communications Aide is the working title for the position of Principal Council Executive Assistant.
