Job Description

Davis Behavioral Health (DBH) is hiring a full-time Dual Diagnosis Therapist to join the treatment team at the Davis County Jail. The Dual Diagnosis Therapist is a licensed mental health professional who provides therapeutic services for individuals incarcerated in the Davis County Jail. Working within the correctional facility the therapist conducts assessments develops treatment plans and provides individual and group therapy for individuals experiencing mental health and/or substance use disorders. Additionally this position collaborates closely with correctional staff and other treatment team members to ensure comprehensive care and appropriate transition to services upon release. In accordance with jail policies the position requires passing the Davis County Sheriffs Office background investigation.

Essential Job Functions

The Dual Diagnosis Therapist will be responsible for completing the following tasks:

  • Conduct comprehensive mental health and substance abuse evaluations including assessing for co-occurring disorders and diagnosis as appropriate.
  • Complete risk assessments and develop individualized safety plans.
  • Develop individualized treatment plans consisting of mutually agreed upon goals and objectives and update as needed.
  • Provide therapeutic services (individual group etc.) using evidence-based interventions to decrease symptoms and improve functioning.
  • Provide consultation on behavioral health issues to correctional staff as needed.
  • Maintain clinical documentation as required by agency standards.
  • Coordinate with other staff and community agencies as needed to provide effective care.
  • Participate in weekly staff meetings and regularly scheduled supervision.
  • Adhere to all correctional facility policies and procedures ensuring safety and compliance at all times.
  • Must meet agency productivity standard.
  • Other responsibilities as needed and assigned.

Schedule

This is a full-time position and is normally assigned to weekdays. This schedule may require two evenings per week. DBH reserves the right to require overtime weekend work and/or assignment to evening or night shifts depending upon operational need some in and out of state travel may be required.

The proposed schedule for this opening is Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Location and Work Environment

This position is housed at the Davis County Jail located at 800 West State Street Farmington UT 84025.

This position is located within a correctional facility and will interact with incarcerated individuals correctional officers and other facility staff in a secure and structured environment. The position may involve exposure to emotionally charged situations and requires adherence to strict security protocols.

The employee must be able to drive and must have a valid drivers license with clean driving record to be covered by DBH insurance. The employee is required to stand walk reach carry and kneel. The employee must be able to walk on uneven surfaces and climb stairs. The employee must occasionally move or lift 25-50 pounds. The employee must be able to sit at computer workstations for up to three hours a day. The employee must be able to stand to speak in public.

Compensation

This position is classified as full-time exempt. This position is eligible for a hybrid base rate salary plus incentive model if the candidate is interested.

Base Rate

The base rate for fully licensed clinicians is calculated with a starting annual rate of $75500.00 plus credit for years of full-licensure experience as defined below:

  • $75500.00 to $88000.00 per year is the approved base rate range
  • 1% per year for each year of full licensure
  • $3000 Spanish-language incentive annual stipend (paid bi-weekly) available. Must pass a Spanish assessment.
  • The starting annual earnings for under-licensed therapists (CSW ACMHC) is $64000.00 per year.

Qualifications

The Dual Diagnosis Therapist must fulfill the minimum required qualifications:

  • Masters degree in social work or related field.
  • Current licensure in the state of Utah as an LCSW or equivalent (if under licensed must work towards obtaining full licensure).
  • Must have relevant experience in the behavioral health field.

All DBH employees must successfully pass both a pre-employment drug screening and criminal background screening and remain in good standing in relation to this requirement throughout their time of employment. Further DBH employees who are housed in the Davis County Jail must be able to successfully obtain jail access through a more comprehensive screening process.

Experience

  • Experience in completing behavioral health assessments and providing clinical care to individuals. Prior experience working in a correctional facility and/or with individuals involved in the criminal justice system is preferred. Experience using the ASAM dimension criteria highly preferred.

Skills/Abilities

The follow skills and abilities are critical to the success of the Dual Diagnosis Therapist:

  • Clinical expertise in screening assessments diagnosis and crisis intervention.
  • Must have skills in working with SPMI populations substance use and with individuals undergoing acute episodes of psychiatric distress.
  • Knowledge of the ASAM criteria for determining level of care and guiding treatment.
  • Demonstrates the skills necessary to motivate and engage individuals.
  • Considerable knowledge of trauma-informed care including screening assessing and treating from a trauma-informed lens.
  • Good organizational and practice management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other staff and community agencies.
  • Flexibility in days and hours available for scheduled work including evenings.

DBH Criminal Background Check & Drug Screening Disclaimer


Davis Behavioral Health is a drug-free workplace and requires all employees to successfully pass a pre-employment drug screening.
