Los Angeles County is under a Department of Justice Consent Decree to improve conditions and mental health care in County jails as well as supporting justice-involved populations post-release. We are looking for qualified and passionate individuals to help us in the mission of providing a range of services both in the jail and community. The Los Angeles County Department of Health Services (DHS) is seeking qualified candidates to fill emergency Clinical Psychologist I vacancies related to the DOJ Consent Decree.

Under the emergency order applicants who meet the requirements may be hired for an initial period of up to 90 days with an opportunity for permanent County employment. During your initial work period you will be assessed on your work performance. This assessment will be weighted 100%.

Those who successfully pass the assessment will be considered for permanent appointment to Clinical Psychologist I.

Through academic affiliations with the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) the University of Southern California (USC) and the Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Sciences (CDU) DHS hospitals are training sites for physicians completing their Graduate Medical Education in nearly every medical specialty and subspecialty. In addition to its direct clinical services DHS also runs the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Agency and the Countys 911 emergency response system as well as Housing for Health and the Office of Diversion and Re-entry each with a critical role in connecting vulnerable populations including those released from correctional and institutional settings to supportive housing.

DEFINITION:
Under close supervision serves as a staff psychologist by applying psychological principles in the following major areas: assessment treatment research training and clinical consultation.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT INFORMATION:
Applicants must include a legible photocopy of the required degree to the application at the time of filing or within 7 calendar days of filing online.
As a condition of employment a candidate will be required to complete the Mental Health Professional Licensing Waiver Request at the time of appointment. The Department of Mental Health will submit the completed Waiver Request to the California Department of Mental Health.
Applications will be rejected if waivers for newly-trained psychologists exceeded 5years from the commencement of employment in Californiaor waivers for out-of-state psychologists exceeded one year from date of employment in California.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Post Doctorate Degree experience as a Psychologist.

PHYSICAL CLASS II - Light: Light physical effort which may include occasional light lifting to a 10 pound limit and some bending stooping or squatting. Considerable walking may be involved.

All required licenses and certifications must be active and unrestricted or your application will not be accepted.
