Job Description
GENERAL DEFINITION:
This is skilled building trades work at the supervisory level. A position in this class plans assigns and reviews the activities of from three to five lower-level building trades positions working on County facilities and buildings. A position in this class is differentiated from those in related classes in the incumbents responsibility for the accomplishment of work in the area of specialization performed by others. A position in this class reports directly to a technical or administrative supervisory position.

Reviews maintenance and repair needs; develops priorities and schedules based on use anticipated demand workforce availability supplies and/or equipment needs and other factors; informs workers of established job schedules and priorities; plans and assigns jobs; secures needed equipment and materials; coordinates schedule for job performance with other building personnel and those in affected area; works with contractors inspectors and vendors to plan for and coordinate efforts in larger alteration or repair jobs; assists with problems encountered; inspects work in progress and/or upon completion depending on size and nature of job and structure of work crew assigned; spot checks routine assignments to insure effective use of time; inspects finished job for conformance to requirements codes and accepted trade standards.
Interviews candidates for positions; trains new employees in use and maintenance of tools and equipment; approves leave requests; evaluates performance; resolves problems; takes disciplinary action or refers to higher-level personnel; makes records of actions taken incidents breakdowns or other events; keeps personnel and equipment records including hours worked and materials used; documents and reports job completion; checks equipment and supply inventory; prepares requisitions for standard supplies.
Receives work or job orders; inspects and tests item or system to determine source of problem; services removes repairs replaces constructs and/or installs carpentry electrical or plumbing fixtures or systems depending on the area of specialization; inspects and studies building plans and drawings for work requirements; prepares area for work including opening partitions as necessary for access to affected area or fixture; makes repair or alteration.
Performs related work as required.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Comprehensive knowledge of principles practices methods and techniques commonly employed in the repair alteration and installation of fixtures and systems in the area of specialization.
Thorough knowledge of the tools materials and safety precautions used in the area of specialization.
Thorough knowledge of principles and practices addressed by and general provisions of code requirements in the area of specialization.
Skill in the use and maintenance of building trades tools and materials.
Ability to plan assign and review the work of a small group of lower-level trades positions.
Ability to determine and keep records of labor time materials and equipment required to complete assigned jobs.
Ability to instruct others in the use maintenance and repair of building trades tools and equipment in the area of specialization.
ACCEPTABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
Education equivalent to completion of the twelfth school grade.
Five to six years building trades work in the area of specialization two years which shall have been at the journeyman level.
Or any equivalent combination of acceptable training and experience which has provided the knowledge skills and abilities cited above.
