Job Description

12-Month position

Salary range: 68000 to 75000

Benefits: District-Paid Teacher

POSITION: Career Counselor

QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience: Experience working in career education preferred.

Certification: Oklahoma School Counselor Certification required.

Education: Masters degree in Education required.

PRIMARY FUNCTION: Provide career counseling for potential and current students. Ensure proper assessment enrollment and placement of students. Coordinate career development activities for all students in grades eight through twelve at partner schools.

DIRECT SUPERVISOR: Director of Student Services

CONTRACT: 12 Month

CLASSIFICATION: Exempt

MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Coordinate the enrollment of secondary/adult students which includes necessary testing and score interpretation interviewing of students and maintaining a good working relationship with partner school counselors principals and other contact persons.
  2. Coordinate application and enrollment process of advanced medical prospective students which includes gathering applications with documentation and scheduling interviews for prospective program. Collaborate with the Director of Full-Time Programs for Business & Health and program instructors of the advanced medical programs as necessary to stay informed of program standards and place qualified students.
  3. Collect secondary students test scores and academic status.
  4. Work with prospective students by scheduling campus visits testing and provide other needed information. Actively promote and engage in student recruitment for all programs at Autry Technology Center.
  5. Participate in IEP meetings of students interested in attending Autry Tech.
  6. Determine and schedule review of placement meetings when necessary.
  7. Ensure that students strengths and weaknesses; learning modality; medical information; and IEP information are made available to appropriate Autry instructors.
  8. Keep partner school counselors/special education teachers and Director of Student Services informed if student progress is not satisfactory.
  9. Prepare 504 plans as needed.
  10. Provide career counseling to individuals and groups during the enrollment process and throughout the school term as needed regarding schedule changes attendance and grade concerns. Meet with instructors students and parents/guardians as needed to improve retention in Autry Tech programs.
  11. Coordinate/provide career exploration opportunities activities and counseling to individuals and groups. Activities may include but are not limited to administration of an interest inventory identification of high interest and its relationship to education and career opportunities and business and industry tours.
  12. Maintain relationship with program instructor to remain up to date on program standards and industry needs.
  13. Coordinate and actively participate in 8th grade Sophomore and other educational group tours at Autry Tech.
  14. Assist with Autry Professional Representatives (APR) Career Tech Student Organizations (CTSOs) and First Robotics as needed.
  15. Participate in partner school community and Autry Technology Center activities that inform and promote career and technology education enhance morale and enable the accomplishment of the needs goals objectives activities and mission of the schools/organizations.
  16. Effectively utilize a Career Counseling Advisory Committee. Minimum of one advisory committee meeting per year required.
  17. Prepare and submit to direct supervisor a list of budgetary needs for the Career Counseling program annually.
  18. Actively engage and maintain working relationship between the Career Counseling department Autry Technology Center Workforce Development staff partner schools and businesses/industries in the field.
  19. Coordinate with Marketing Department to keep the public informed regarding activities and successes of the Career Counseling department.
  20. Participate in annual evaluation of his/her own performance with supervisor.
  21. Assist in upholding and enforcing the policies and procedures of the Autry Technology Center Board of Education.
  22. Assist in identifying preparing evaluating and disseminating information to Autry Technology Center administration as requested.
  23. Prepare and submit reports and other documents as required by Autry Technology Center the Oklahoma Department of Career and Technology Education and other accrediting agencies.
  24. Attend faculty/staff meetings professional development and other school meetings/functions which are required.
  25. Promote positive morale within Autry Technology Center and demonstrate the ability to work with people.
  26. Maintain professional competence through participation in professional educational and leadership activities.
  27. Dress in an appropriate and professional manner.
  28. To ensure continuity of services remote work may be necessary in the event of a health crisis or disruptive situation that requires the closing of school and/or office buildings. An employees eligibility for remote work will be determined by the Superintendent or designee. Expectations and guidelines for remote work will be distributed by the employees supervisor based on his/her role and responsibilities.
  29. Perform other duties as assigned.
