Job Description

JOB DESCRIPTION

ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF TRANSPORTATION (Classified Licensed)

BASIC FUNCTION: Assist Director of Transportation with organizing planning directing and implementing operations and activities involved in student transportation; communicate with parents community representatives local officials and the general public.

Performance Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Assist with organizing planning directing and implementing operations and activities involved in student transportation to assure safe and effective transportation services.
  • Assist with planning and directing pre-service and in-service training of bus drivers in cooperation with staff development and safety/security units; provide leadership for development of vehicle safety program.
  • Plan and approve transportation route and bus stop locations in cooperation with school principals and other school personnel involved.
  • Assist with recruitment of potential job applicants
  • Assist with interviewing driver applicants
  • Communicate with parents community representatives local officials and the general public; coordinate communications and information and promote positive relationships. Receive and resolve issues concerns and complaints concerning student transportation services; direct to appropriate personnel and monitor resolution.
  • Assist with budget preparation as required
  • Assist with preparing required reports and assuring the preparation and maintenance of department records; prepare and deliver oral reports as required.
  • Assists the Superintendent in deciding to open close or dismiss school during inclement weather.
  • Assists Supervisor of Transportation in conducting annual surplus property auction.
  • Assists Supervisor of Transportation in monitoring school bus operations.
  • Assists school administration in the responsibility and discipline procedures for problems occurring on school buses.
  • Assists Supervisor of Transportation in assigning new buses to routes.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

KNOWLEDGE OF:

  • Laws rules regulations and guidelines governing student transportation.
  • Policies and procedures concerning time lines and routing of buses.
  • Streets and distances involved in routing buses.
  • Requirements of a variety of training programs.
  • Principles and practices of supervision and training.
  • Oral and written communication skills.

ABILITY TO:

  • Plan and direct training programs.
  • Plan and approve transportation routes and bus stops.
  • Assure department meets legal requirements concerning student transportation.
  • Maintain current knowledge of program rules regulations requirements and restrictions.
  • Train supervise and evaluate personnel.
  • Analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action.
  • Communicate effectively with those contacted in the course of work within and outside

the District.

  • Coordinate and disseminate information.
  • Prepare and deliver oral presentations.
  • Perceive the problems and needs of other persons and helps to resolve them through

council and timely action.

  • Foster respect from others by exhibiting such qualities as humility understanding leadership

integrity courage insight helpfulness and responsibility.

  • Develop rapport with employees and an esprit de corps within the department.
  • Promote effective interpersonal relations among members of the staff which result in mutual

respect an appropriate degree of harmony and individual and group proficiency.

RESPONSIBILITY:

  • Directly responsible to the Director of Transportation for the overall operation of the Department of Transportation Maintenance Facility.

AUTHORITY:

  • Has authority commensurate with responsibility to take all steps and action deemed necessary within applicable statutes State Board of Education Regulations Jessamine County Board of Education Policies and administrative regulations and directives to discharge the responsibilities described above.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 4 year degree
  • 5 years relevant experience preferred

LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Valid Kentucky drivers and CDL licenses
