Plans organizes analyzes conducts and coordinates professional wildlife management activities or studies in the office and field. Develops and uses best practices in managing the states wildlife populations and their habitats. Develops and/or reviews recommendations and reports on wildlife research wildlife surveys habitat evaluations special studies and environmental inventories and estimates. Works with coworkers and leads staff interns and/or volunteers to complete assigned projects. At this level employees work under general supervision of the Statewide Supervisor exercising discretion and independent judgment within agency guidelines. Provides consultation and technical advice within specialty areas and makes public presentations. Oversees specific projects including scheduling project personnel and equipment and organizing data collection. Responsible for initiating contracts writing proposals responding to Request for Proposals (RFP) and generating detailed funding proposals and study plans. Daily tasks include managing personnel requirements budgets time lines literature reviews analytical methods reports and peer reviewed publications and directing others in those tasks. Other duties will include assisting biologists in performing bat capture acoustic and roost surveys statewide acoustic data collection assisting with the installation of bat friendly gates at abandoned mines and assisting in bat acoustic analysis. This Regional Supervisor must track their respective projects from initiation to final completion and ensure those under their supervision meet time lines and complete the deliverables required under the contract.

The candidate will have knowledge of wildlife science and management best practices. Federal state and agency rules regulations policies and procedures. Knowledge of work supervision principles and leadership techniques including coaching mentoring and staff development. Public relations negotiation and customer service principles and techniques.

The candidate should have the skills to apply job-related federal state and agency rules regulations policies and procedures. Plan and execute wildlife-related programs. Apply wildlife science and management best practices as appropriate to supervisory assignment development. Develop and maintain working relationships with various governmental agencies special interest groups the media and public. Provide appropriate public relations and customer service within and outside the agency to a variety of individuals and private and public entities. Skill in data processing and analysis technical writing and composition public speaking handling marking and releasing various wildlife species. The use of environmental measuring devices and data gathering techniques.

The candidate should have the ability to negotiate with public and private entities and individuals to obtain grants and contracts. Develop complex study designs and plans using the most current scientific techniques and methodologies. Conduct statistically valid and defensible habitat value and impact analysis using current accepted methodologies. The ability to work irregular hours including on weekends holidays and at night on occasion. Perform field site visits sometimes in extreme weather and/or isolated conditions.

The candidate must have a Bachelors or advanced degree in the biological sciences or closely related field from an accredited college or university and at least 3 years of professional experience in wildlife research/management. An advanced degree in biological sciences sciences or closely related field from an accredited college or university may substitute for one year of required experience. Knowledge and familiarity of Southwestern bat ecology and best practices associated with surveys monitoring and research of Southwestern bats.
