About the Role
You will be responsible for the development and delivery of clinical education for podiatrists at St Vincents Hospital Melbourne who work in the High Risk Foot Service Community Rehabilitation Centre Residential Aged Care home therapy service and acute and sub-acute admitted services. You will play an integral role in promoting innovation and excellence in clinical practice and education across the services.
Duties include:
Support St Vincents Hospital Melbourne Podiatrists to provide the highest standard of clinical practice through effective clinical education and supervision
Contribute to continuous improvement service development and research within the department
Provide the highest standard of podiatry services to patients through effective assessment treatment evaluation team liaison and discharge planning
Classifications for this position will range from classification CV9 - CV12 ($104135.20 - $118981.20 pro rata)

About the Department
The Podiatry department provides podiatry and inter-disciplinary high risk foot services to patients across multiple sites in the sub-acute hospitals; specialist outpatient and community clinics; aged care and at-home services at St Vincents Hospital Fitzroy St Georges Hospital Kew St Vincents on the Park residential facilities and correctional health facilities.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
The position will support Podiatry Clinical Education across all areas of St. Vincents Hospital Melbourne including those working in the Allied Health & Pharmacy Programs Health Independence Programs and St Vincents at Home program that operate from the Fitzroy Kew North Richmond and Fairfield campuses. In total there are approximately 450 FTE Allied Health (headcount 600) working across SVHM. This position is based at the Fitzroy Campus of SVHM but will provide support across all SVHM sites and programs and is expected to attend these sites on a regular basis.

PURPOSE
The Podiatry Educator is a role that aims to ensure the skill development and delivery of effective clinical care of Podiatrists in clinical practice across all areas of St. Vincents Hospital Melbourne including the High Risk Foot Service Community Rehabilitation Centre Residential Aged Care home therapy service and acute and sub-acute admitted services. ThePodiatry Educator will coordinate the undergraduate student placement program at SVHM.
The incumbent will play a key role in supporting Podiatrists to develop their clinical practice skills through diverse and comprehensive learning opportunities. The incumbent will ensure education delivered by Podiatry is up to date clinically relevant professional and in line with contemporary evidence-based practice.
The Podiatry Educator will be a role model for others demonstrating well-developed clinical knowledge of the discipline areas high-level skill and knowledge in practice education feedback mechanisms and supervision and refined leadership and management skills. The Podiatry Educator will provide clinical supervision of staff co-treatment within a skill development framework and orientation to practice in line with standards set by the Podiatry Board of Australia and the Department of Health Clinical Supervision Framework.
The Podiatry Educator will lead and develop both Podiatry and interprofessional education opportunities providing education to staff based on identified priorities across the service areas to support workforce development.
The role will have strong relationships with key stakeholders including service managers the Allied Health Interdisciplinary Education Lead other Allied Health Educators and the SVHM Education and Learning department.
DUTIES
- Work collaboratively with the Podiatry leadership team Interdisciplinary Clinical Educators and Operational Managers to further develop Clinical Education at St Vincents Melbourne
- Promote a culture of reflection continuous learning and workforce development.
- Develop effective working relationships with all teams to ensure rich learning experiences within St Vincents Melbourne.
- Identify developing needs and plan and provide education to support staff in delivering effective clinical care.
- Support junior staff in orientation to the health service and the requirements of clinical practice.
- Maintain a high degree of clinical competence
- Develop and review education resources coordinate and facilitate ongoing support and in-service education for staff at SVHM to continuously improve service levels provided to patients/clients.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge skills and practice by researching and developing adult education principles models of best practice in training and education and developing training programs to support and improve the delivery of education to staff.
- Communicate effectively in a culturally sensitive manner with patients/clients families and other health care professionals to plan and implement intervention strategies ensuring patient needs are identified and addressed.
- Act as an appropriate and effective role model and promote a culture and supporting practices that reflect the organisational values through demonstrated behaviours and interactions with patients/clients/employees.
- Support the education of staff in the requirements of the National Safety and Quality Health Service Standards.
- To support effective clinical supervision functions across the profession
- Where directed to provide clinical supervision
- Profile staff credentialing and competency standards for clinical practice at SVHM including development of competency standards.
- Collaborate with other educators to audit/ monitor/evaluate and maintain records of clinical education delivery and efficacy
- Support development of Advanced Scope of Practice initiatives

- As delegated by the manager provide representation of Podiatry and/or Allied Health as part of working parties committees and internal / external forums.
- Representation of Podiatry: Provides an expert resource for delivery of the Podiatry Clinical Education Program across campuses and advises and represents the Chief Podiatrist as required on matters relating to Podiatry practice.
- Represents and promotes the SVHM Podiatry department Allied Health and St Vincents Health within and external to St Vincents Health.

- Attend SVHM orientation upon commencement
- Maintain clinical registration and any required indemnity cover
- Always work within approved scope of practice under supervision by more senior clinical staff as appropriate

CRITERIA
6.1ESSENTIAL REGISTRATION LICENSE OR QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor of Podiatry Equivalent
- Registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
- A current drivers licence
- Completed or working towards a post graduate qualifications in Clinical Education or relevant area (desired).
- Experience and demonstrated clinical excellence in diabetes and high-risk-foot disease assessment and management

- Minimum of six years post-graduate experience
