JOB DESCRIPTION:

TheDoswell School of Aeronautical Sciences at Texas Womans Universityinvites applications for a Professor of Aeronautical Sciences with an emphasis in Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) and Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS). We seek an accomplished scholar with an active research program that aligns with the mission of the FAA Center of Excellence for UAS (ASSURE)a national coalition dedicated to advancing the safe integration of UAS into the U.S. National Airspace System which includes TWU as the newest member.

This faculty member will play a key role in advancing AAM and UAS research mentoring students and collaborating with industry and government partners to address critical challenges in UAS safety operations policy and technology development. The ideal candidate will have a strong record of research funding publications and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and lead a funded research program in UAS contributing to ASSUREs research initiatives.
  • Teach undergraduate courses in aeronautical sciences UAS operations and related fields.
  • Mentor students and supervise student research projects.
  • Establish and maintain collaborations with government agencies (FAA NASA DoD) industry leaders and academic partners.
  • Engage in curriculum development and contribute to the continuous improvement of UAS and aeronautical science programs at TWU.
  • Serve on university departmental and professional committees and contribute to outreach initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A Ph.D. in Aeronautical Science Aerospace Engineering Unmanned Systems Aviation Technology or a closely related field.
  • A strong record of externally funded research and peer-reviewed publications in UAS operations policy safety autonomy human factors or related areas.
  • Experience with FAA regulations airspace integration and emerging UAS technologies.
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching and mentorship at the undergraduate and/or graduate level.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with academic industry and government stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

  • MS or BS in Engineering from ABET-accredited program.
  • Active participation in ASSURE or other FAA/Industry-based UAS research initiatives.
  • Expertise in UAS risk assessment detect-and-avoid technologies AI in aviation or advanced UAS operations.
  • FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate and experience with UAS flight testing.
  • Experience in interdisciplinary research and securing competitive research grants.
