Distribution Engineer
The Distribution Engineer is responsible for the design planning and management of electrical distribution systems that supply power to homes businesses and industries. This role ensures the safe reliable and efficient delivery of electrical energy while supporting system growth modernization and emergency response efforts.
Distribution System Design:
Design and optimize overhead and underground systems substations transformers and protection equipment in compliance with industry codes and utility regulations.
Network Analysis:
Perform load flow voltage drop and fault current analyses. Identify capacity constraints and propose mitigation strategies.
Asset Management:
Maintain accurate records of distribution assets. Conduct assessments and recommend maintenance repair or replacement of aging equipment.
Equipment Specification:
Select transformers breakers switches and protective devices based on system requirements and load profiles.
Safety & Compliance:
Ensure designs meet safety protocols environmental standards and regulatory requirements. Coordinate with regulatory agencies as needed.
Reliability Improvements:
Identify and implement strategies to enhance power quality minimize outages and improve overall system resilience.
Customer Connections:
Evaluate new connection requests assess impact on the network and design infrastructure solutions for load integration.
Project Management:
Manage distribution infrastructure projects from concept through execution. Oversee contractors schedules and budgets.
Emergency Response:
Lead rapid assessments and corrective actions during outages faults or system disturbances.
Data Analysis:
Analyze operational data from SCADA systems smart meters and sensors to drive data-informed engineering decisions.
Education:
Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline (required). Masters degree (preferred for advanced roles).
Licensure:
Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred or the ability to obtain one based on region-specific requirements.
Experience:
Relevant experience in distribution design utility operations or consulting roles Adjust based on level.
Technical Skills:
Proficiency in CAD tools distribution planning software and power system modeling tools
Familiarity with AutoCAD GIS software and smart grid technologies
Understanding of protection systems grid automation and load forecasting
