Job Summary
The lecture instructor will teach a combination of geology lecture and lab classes each week develop teaching and testing materials for classes and work with existing and develop new community service projects. Mentoring undergraduate students in research projects is encouraged.
Essential Functions
Will be employed as a faculty member fulfilling all faculty responsibilities including teaching a minimum of five lecture classes per long semester. May also be assigned lab sections With the Program Chair help to schedule and staff geology lecture and lab classes With other members of the Geology Department and the Program Chair help to prepare a recommended budget for the department recommend purchases of equipment and supplies maintain and control use of equipment and supplies With the other members of the Geology Department recommend textbooks and instructional materials to be used in the instructional program Develop implement and evaluate curriculum. Lecture and lab curriculum are to supplement each other Assist with educational counseling and program advising of students May be asked to assist with writing and development of proposals seeking funds or property for the Geology Department May be asked to coordinate with appropriate Midland College personnel to recruit new geology students. Work to increase enrollment in the Geology Department. The minimum faculty load is 80 students per semester Stay current with trends and innovations in the field Maintain professional status through classroom participation organizational memberships advanced study publication and/or community-related service Help to orient new full-time and part-time faculty Serve as a resource person to the college and professional and educational communities Maintain academic records as required by the college accreditation agencies and law Successfully teach academic courses in the Geology Department as evidenced by student evaluations and grade distributions Develops goals and objectives for the department Fulfill other duties as assigned by Midland College
Physical Demands
Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time Must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time The person in this position needs to move from office to classroom occasionally Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation Use of manual dexterity The person in this position frequently communicates with others; must be able to exchange accurate information Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision distance vision color vision and the ability to adjust focus Frequently moves equipment or paperwork weighing up to 20 pounds Office and classroom setting Ability to work extended hours and attend Midland College or community events The person in this position needs to occasionally move or drive to other locations on and off campus
Required Qualifications
Masters degree with 18 graduate hours in Geology College teaching experience General classroom and lab equipment knowledge Knowledge of computers and computer software including Microsoft Office Excellent written and verbal communication skills Must possess a valid Texas Drivers License good driving record and be insurable on Midland Colleges insurance policy

Doctorate in Geology
