Developing Student Self Concepta. Assist students to become aware of their potential and interests and to helpdevelop these to the fullest.b. Encourage students to accept responsibilities and further develop their interactionskills.c. Assist students in developing personal decision-making competencies.d. Express concern for all students regardless of cultural academic or intellectualneeds.2. Communicating and Interactinga. Confer and cooperate with students parents colleagues and community agencies.b. Conduct conferences with parents to help them better understand the educationalvocational personal and social adjustment plans of their children.c. Organize and disseminate materials of an occupational and educational nature forstudent parent and staff use.d. Assist staff in providing students with career information resources and inacquiring job-seeking skills.e. Serve as a resource person to students parents and school staff onoutside-of-school agencies and services.f. Monitor the academic progress of counselee and keep parents students andadministration informed by conferences and letters.g. Attend MDT/IEP/RTI/504/MTSS meetings at which assigned counsels arediscussed.h. Serve as a liaison with district student services personnel.i. Provide assistance to teachers in the interpretation of the abilities and needs ofindividual students.j. Provide assistance to teachers in planning and conducting parent-teacherconferences. Participate in parent-teacher conference upon request.k. Counsel students and their parents on matters relating to the students adjustmentto school.l. Assist in the orientation and adjustment for new students.m. Articulate with Middle School Counselorsn. Develop and participate in an orientation program for 8th-grade parents.o. Demonstrate sensitivity in working with staff students and parents.3. Schedulinga. Assist students in program planning and course selections for the purpose ofaiding them in the attainment of their stated goals.b. Provide available scheduling information for utilization in the master schedule.c. Assist students in pre-registering for the following year; check the appropriatenessof student programs monitor student selections to ensure that credit and courserequirements for graduation will be met; and insure that each student is followingschool policies.d. Assist the principal in the placement of new students using parent conferencesstudent conferences and testing as appropriate.e. Assist the teachers and the principal in achieving the optimum placement withinthe school for each student.f. Make appropriate schedule changes adjustments and corrections.4. Testinga. Implement school testing programs assure the proper interpretation of test resultsto all individuals concerned and utilize test data to diagnose student needs.b. Make a preliminary evaluation of the school problems of students referred tohim/her by teachers the principal and others and request the services of districtstudent services personnel in dealing with these difficulties when appropriate.c. Assist the principal with the coordination of the schools group testing program.5. Group and Individual Counselinga. Provide students personal and developmental counseling services throughindividual and group conferences.b. Supervise and assist students in the preparation and processing of secondaryschool post-secondary school scholarships financial aid and employmentapplications.c. Assist in identifying students with physical learning and emotional disabilitiesinform their teachers of these disabilities and refer them to appropriate specialistsfor evaluation.d. Assist parents and students in acquiring information and interpreting informationin regard to their educational needs.e. Assist in planning and implementing a freshman orientation program.f. Assist in planning and implementing college admissions/planning seminars forjunior and senior students and their parents.g. Assist senior students in the college admissions process by providing resourcematerials and information; by guiding students in the decision process; and bywriting the required recommendations.h. Assist with the selection of students for special programs by making studentsaware of the program by referring the student and by preparing the necessarypapers (recommendations etc.)i. Assist in identifying those students whose counseling needs are not being met byexisting programs and initiate activities to alleviate perceived programweaknesses.j. Work with administrators teachers students and parents to explore options andalternatives in career education and in the world of work.k. Introduce students and parents to the College Selection Process and IndividualLearning Plan process.l. Develop and implement post-high school planning programs for studentsinterested in continuing education for vocational students.m. Develop post-high school employment planningn. Develop Financial Aid planning for parents whose children will continue theireducation (parents of 11th and 12th graders).6. Demonstrating Professional Skillsa. Demonstrate school counselor related competencies and keep informedconcerning occupational trends in the community and nation.b. Furnish information regarding the school counseling program.c. Serve as a consultant in the area of school counseling to members of the schoolstaff parents and personnel from cooperating agencies.d. Attend and participate in building departmental and team meetings.e. Participate in local research for evaluating the educational and/or schoolcounseling program.f. Provide for professional growth through an ongoing program of readingworkshops seminars conferences and/or advanced course work at institutions ofhigher learning.7. Managerial Dutiesa. Maintain accurate complete and correct records as required by law districtpolicy and administrative regulation.b. Respond promptly and accurately to requests made by fellow teachers parentsadministrators and/or supervisors.c. Accompany students on field trips arranged by the School CounselingDepartment.d. Assist the Director of School Counseling in the general appearance and upkeep ofthe school counseling facilities (e.g. updating of resource materials and properreplacement of materials after use).e. Maintain required counseling records and student files. Collect organize andanalyze all pertinent information about students from records tests interviewsand professional services.f. Prepare required follow-up studies and reports.g. Meet with visiting college admissions officers as time DUTIES:1. Performs any other related duties as assigned by the Principal or other appropriateadministrators such as monitoring evaluation scheduling and coverage.2.
