Job Description

About the Role:

The Hospice Nursing Assistant plays a crucial role in providing compassionate care to patients in their final stages of life ensuring comfort and dignity. This position involves working closely with registered nurses and other healthcare professionals to deliver personalized care plans tailored to each patients needs. The primary goal is to enhance the quality of life for patients and support their families during this challenging time. The Hospice Nursing Assistant will assist with daily living activities monitor patient conditions and provide emotional support. Ultimately this role is vital in creating a peaceful and supportive environment for both patients and their loved ones.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of a state-approved nursing assistant training program.
  • Current certification as a Nursing Assistant (CNA) or equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in hospice or palliative care settings.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Additional training in geriatric care or end-of-life care.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist patients with daily living activities such as bathing dressing grooming and eating.
  • Monitor and record vital signs reporting any changes in patient conditions to the nursing staff.
  • Provide emotional support and companionship to patients and their families.
  • Help maintain a clean and safe environment for patients including changing bed linens and ensuring proper hygiene.
  • Participate in team meetings to discuss patient care plans and contribute to the overall care strategy.

Skills:

The required skills for this position include strong interpersonal communication which is essential for building rapport with patients and their families. Attention to detail is crucial when monitoring vital signs and documenting changes in patient conditions. Empathy and compassion are key skills that enable the Hospice Nursing Assistant to provide emotional support during difficult times. Time management skills are necessary to efficiently assist multiple patients with their daily needs. Preferred skills such as experience in hospice care enhance the ability to understand the unique challenges faced by patients and their families allowing for more tailored and effective support.
