Job Description

THE POSITION

The Department of Transportation is seeking a Driver License Examiner for our Uniontown Driver Licensing Center. This vital position plays a key role in enhancing highway safety by administering standardized tests to evaluate the skills of both commercial (CDL) and non-commercial driver license applicants. Beyond testing the examiner also assists customers at the counter with a primary focus on verifying identity documents to combat identity theft and fraud. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this role you will assess the physical and driving qualifications of applicants as well as evaluate the mechanical condition of vehicles to ensure they meet the established safety standards for driving. You will conduct various vision tests including telebinocular and color perception assessments to gauge applicants visual capabilities.


Additionally you will administer both non-commercial and commercial driver license knowledge examinations to verify that individuals possess a solid understanding of the Vehicle Code and traffic signage. You will also oversee the pre-trip skills and driving tests for both non-commercial and commercial licenses adhering to departmental standards. Furthermore you will inspect motor vehicles for compliance with safety features such as inspection stickers lights and windshield wipers.


Your responsibilities will include scrutinizing applications registrations and permits for any signs of irregularities or fraudulent activity as well as determining vehicle specifications to ensure the correct tests are conducted. You will review various documents including applications birth certificates Social Security cards marriage certificates court documents proof of residency and immigration-related documents to verify their authenticity. Utilizing multiple systems and databases you will authenticate identity documents establish individuals identities and assess their eligibility for obtaining a drivers license or identification card while also identifying and preventing fraud and identity theft.


You will process test results and applications issuing driver licenses and identification cards to qualified applicants and provide information regarding renewals duplicates out-of-state transfers motorcycle licenses and commercial drivers license requirements including restrictions and endorsements. Additionally you will generate Restoration Requirements Letters for customers who request them in person.

Special Requirements:
  • This position requires an active Pennsylvania non-commercial Class C Drivers License or equivalent and twenty-one years of age at the time of application.
  • This position requires no suspensions or revocations of a drivers license during the five year period immediately preceding employment.
  • All employees in this job hired after February 28 2022 are required to obtain an active unrestricted Class M drivers license within the first six months of employment or before the end of the probationary period and maintain it during employment.
  • You must have possession of an active Class A Pennsylvania Commercial Drivers License or equivalent with the following endorsements: P and N. The Commercial Driver License cannot have any of the following restrictions: E L N O or Z.
