Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center is an independent nonprofit organization providing adult cancer treatment and groundbreaking research focused on cancer and infectious diseases. Based in Seattle Fred Hutch is the only National Cancer Institute-designated cancer center in Washington.

The laboratory of Dr. Nasa Sinnott-Armstrong ( has a temporary Undergraduate Research Associate position open in the Computational Biology Program of the Public Health Sciences Division.
At the Sinnott-Armstrong Lab we are interested in common human diseases and patient experience to pursue transformative advancements in healthcare. We are dedicated to understanding the map between genotype environment and phenotype at a population level. We aim to accelerate the diagnosis and management of environmental pathogens improve health outcomes and access by prioritizing patient experiences and foster innovative inclusive practices in science.

Responsibilities
We work in an interdisciplinary team environment with many local and external experts. Candidate would mostly be focused on maintaining and expanding the Lil Lab Network through three distinct components:
- Building out a resource repository to better enable connecting local collaborators to biology and biotech tools and to each other as well as to policy and starting resources;
- Building and maintaining relationships with local and regional partners; and
- Launching an additional global cohort of Lil Labs to support and grow the network.
These responsibilities would involve both local and regional travel as well as remote work with collaborators across the globe. Position would support the needs of collaborators and help onboard additional volunteers into a variety of roles within the project. Finally this position would involve helping with various additional tasks around the lab as time permits.
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Demonstrated leadership in global community biology networks (e.g. iGEM Global Community Biosummit GOSH DIYbio)
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills especially in community-driven or technical contexts
- Proven ability to coordinate across diverse teams time zones and cultural contexts
- Experience organizing workshops conferences or community events
- Strong interest in science policy bioethics or legislative processes affecting community biology
- Familiarity with open-source principles participatory design and decentralized knowledge sharing
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience developing or contributing to open-access digital repositories or toolkits
- Prior work or research involving community biosafety or governance models
The hourly pay range for this position is from $20.76 to $29.54 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.
