Manages day-to-day activities to ensure the department is running efficiently and meets the expectations and needs of customers and staff. Assists with the management/administrative aspects and has operational control of a range of projects. May work on assignments related to project development and management initiatives internal operating procedures business processes and policies.
This position is open to current regular Boise State University employees only.

Business Operations Coordinator: entry-level professional with limited or no prior experience to contribute on a project or work team. Incumbent learns to use professional concepts to resolve problems of limited scope and complexity under close supervision while achieving day-to-day objectives. Works on developmental assignments that are initially routine in nature requiring limited judgment and decision making. This level is typically focused on self development. Requires theoretical knowledge through specific education and training.
Business Operations Manager: fully competent and productive professional contributor who applies acquired job skills policies and procedures to complete substantive assignments/projects/tasks of moderate scope and complexity. Works independently with general supervision; exercises judgement within defined guidelines and practices to determine appropriate action. May provide guidance and assistance to entry level professionals and/or support employees.
60% of the time the Business Operations Coordinator must:
Responsible for various processes and liaison with other units such as Human Resources research support financials data management and communication.
Directs customer service and support functions. Assists in performing all tasks necessary to achieve the organizations mission and help execute staff succession and growth plans. May lead efforts to recruit new employees with the goal of attracting and retaining qualified individuals. Manages quality assurance programs.
Serves as liaison to other team members including interacting with managers of different areas of the organization presenting findings to stakeholders and higher management as well as training and supervising new employees and tracking and measuring staff performance.
Additional Duties for Business Operations Manager:
Handles sensitive and/or confidential issues.
Establish and maintain internal policies and procedures for administrative activities.
Analyze revenue and expenditures.
May supervise work of others.
35% of the time the Business Operations Coordinator (research) must:
Pre-award management including working with PI to draft budget and justification documents.
Post-award management including financial reporting effort reporting cost sharing and matching requirements; travel purchasing and hiring responsibilities; adhering to grant limitations and requirements.
Budget management/reconciliation of awards provide regular budget updates to PIs.
Prepare and submit payroll corrections journal entries budget transfers/adjustments for all fund types; F&A accounts/allocation transfers.
Manage colleges internal initiatives and investments in research (e.g. seed and research grants student travel awards etc.)
Serve as liaison between PIs Office of Sponsored Programs research groups and other departments; respond to inquiries.
35% of the time the Business Operations Coordinator or Manager (academic) must:
Support Assistant Dean of Operations in tracking all funds budgets monitoring expenditures and submitting financial reports to COED administration.
Support department heads with management of their respective budgets.
Prepare and submit payroll corrections journal entries budget transfers/adjustments for all fund types.
Reviews and checks work for accuracy and timeliness.
Develop and manage record keeping systems for various business functions.
5% of the time both positions may perform other duties as assigned.

Business Operations Coordinator: Bachelors degree or equivalent experience.
Business Operations Manager: Bachelors and 2 years of professional experience or equivalent relevant experience.
Experience and knowledge working with sponsored research projects.
Experience planning and organizing projects.
Experience working in an academic unit.
