Job Description
Position Summary
We are seeking a dynamic and motivated Assistant Coach for Cross Country and Track & Field to join our athletics team. This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to a competitive and growth-oriented program. Under the direction of the Head Coach the Assistant Coach will play a key role in supporting all aspects of the program including athlete development recruitment of top talent daily operations and meet preparation. This is a hands-on position ideal for someone passionate about coaching mentoring student-athletes and helping elevate the success of both the Cross Country and Track & Field teams.
Essential Functions
- Assist in the implementation of the sport training and instructional program under the direction of the head coach by providing sport skill instruction assisting in the conduct of practice sessions performing game-related duties and motivating players to give their best efforts.
- Recruit prospective student-athletes effectively as assigned by and under the direction of the head coach.
- Serve as a liaison with academic support personnel in support of players academic efforts.
- Serve as a liaison with athletic training and strength and conditioning staff in support of conditioning and rehabilitation of players.
- Demonstrate a sincere interest in the personal and academic development as well as athletic progress of student-athletes.
- Exhibit proficient writing and speaking abilities.
- Exhibit supportive and cooperative behavior in pursuit of sport program goals set by the head coach.
- Efficiently and effectively complete all assignments provided by the head coach.
- Accept constructive criticism and demonstrate professional growth under the supervision of the head coach.
- Exhibit good judgment and professional behavior in advising and counseling student-athletes.
- Conform to the highest standards of professional conduct regarding compliance with department and institutional policies and procedures and adherence to the rules and regulation of athletic governance organizations of which the institution is a member.
- Contribute to the maintenance of good working relationships with all staff student-athletes and external constituents through (a) a positive and constructive approach to all tasks (b) respect for the competencies of others and (c) appropriate conflict resolution behavior.

Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelors degree in physical education or related area
- One to three years of experience as an assistant coach or head coach
- Demonstrated sport knowledge
- Masters degree in physical education or related
- Coaching certification
- National or international competitive playing experience
- Three to five years of experience as an assistant or head coach
Environmental Conditions:- Exposure to varied weather conditions including heat cold rain and wind during outdoor practices and competitions.
- Work is performed in both indoor and outdoor athletic facilities including tracks fields and gyms.
- Occasional exposure to noisy environments (e.g. crowded meets or events).
- May involve early mornings evenings weekends and holidays based on practice travel and competition schedules.
- Frequent travel including overnight trips for away meets and recruiting purposes.
- Use of athletic equipment and training tools which may emit noise or require setup/takedown outdoors.
- Interaction with student-athletes coaching staff recruits and the public in various settings.
- Drive personal or University vehicles to appointments.
- Public contact position requiring professional apparel personal hygiene and grooming.
Physical Demands:- Frequent walking running or standing for extended periods often on uneven surfaces such as grass track or trails.
- Ability to demonstrate athletic techniques drills and conditioning exercises.
- Occasional lifting and carrying of equipment (e.g. hurdles starting blocks water coolers) typically up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to observe and react quickly to athletic movements during training and competition.
- Frequent verbal communication with athletes staff and recruits in dynamic environments.
- Occasional bending kneeling squatting or stretching when setting up equipment or assisting athletes.
- May require prolonged periods of driving or sitting during travel for competitions or recruiting.

The starting annual
salary for this position is $34320 $52000 which reflects what Fresno Pacific
University reasonably expects to pay for this role. Actual compensation will be
determined based on factors such as qualifications experience and internal
equity. In addition to salary Fresno Pacific University offers a competitive
benefits package.
