The purpose of this role is to take ownership and leadership of proactively developing the people polices procedures and culture that ensure the continuous improvement of a safe & healthy working environment for all employees and visitors at the two Ornua Ingredients North America (OINA) sites in accordance with all relevant regulations. Role will be responsible for developing an annual calendar and protocol for testing our safe operating practices and controls in accordance with OSHA recommendations
The role will also be responsible for leading and developing training programs related to Health and Safety of our operations OSHA compliance continuing education and continuous improvement on our Health and Safety protocols and frameworks.
The role will report directly to the President of Ornua Ingredients North America with strong links to VP of Operations and Global Head of Operational Risk.
Key Areas of Responsibility:
Coach and Develop the onsite H&S managers Develop the skills industry knowledge strategies & tactics and overall education of Best in Class H&S management
Consistent interaction with OINA Leadership Team to provide communication on any incidents CAPA Status of H&S initiatives support needed from the LT and communication with Global H&S team
Develop & execute health & safety plans for the site aligned to Ornua Group strategy federal and state legislation and industry best practice
Develop an on-going schedule/calendar for testing our safety systems and protocols such asLock Out/Tag Out SDS documentation CCP guarding fail safes etc.
Update review and maintain the risk register for the site
Develop and lead the risk assessment programme for the site
Lead the site Health & Safety committee in partnership with senior management
Work with the line managers and supervisors to coach encourage and support a positive and proactive culture of Health & Safety including developing and enforcing appropriate policies
Evaluate practices procedures and facilities to assess risk and adherence to the OrnuaGroup requirements and applicable legislation
Conduct training and presentations for health & safety matters and accident prevention
Monitor compliance to policies and legislation through personal inspection of operations and working practices
Inspect equipment and machinery to highlight possible unsafe conditions
Investigate accidents or incidents to discover causes and manage the follow up activities as required
Establish and report on KPIs to track performance in safety awareness & issues
Key Requirements & Attributes:
Demonstrated ability to teach coach and train H&S leaders
Degree qualification in Occupational Health & Safety preferred
Certified Safety Professional (CSP) Chartered membership of IOSH or equivalent is desirable
Minimum 10 years experience as a Health and Safety Manager
Proven experience in leading the Health & Safety agenda in a manufacturing environment; food industry experience highly desired
Deep understanding of H&S legislation
Excellent organisation and motivational skills
Outstanding attention to detail and observation ability
Exceptional communication skills and the ability to influence at all levels of the organisation
A background in a technical discipline (for example chemistry physics engineering) would be an advantage
A clearly defined strategic thought process and a continuous improvement mind-set
Collaborative results oriented pragmatic and hands-on
Building developing inspiring empowering and leading individuals and teams
Manufacturing industry experience
Excellent project management skills
