Job Description
Field engineer with experience operating and piloting remotely operated vehicle (ROV) fiberoptic tether maintenance and splicing/repair and general electronics skills. This position also has the opportunity for science diving in Antarctica if requisite requirements are met.
Key Job Duties:
Keeping a digital log of daily field activities
Organize ROV metadata and video into a deliverable to be used by others
Work with marine winching systems and deploy a relatively small ROV off the side of a zodiac boat or a large ship.
Work with marine ascidians (animals) that inhabit the benthos in the Antarctic marine ecosystem.
High School degree minimum.
4 years or greater experience in ROV operations and engineering.
2 years or greater of demonstrated experience in marine operations/marine field work.
Demonstration of electrical engineering skills and work with fiberoptic cable/tether
100 lifetime SCUBA dives and at least 25 dives in a dry suit below 60 feet.
Related experience working in Antarctica
Logistical and organizational skills for cargo shipping equipment to and from Antarctica
Experience mentoring others in ROV operations and maintenance
$28/ hr
Up to 40 hours per week as needed in the field and in fieldwork preparations.
Some heavy lifting required (est. 70 lbs over short distances);
Meet diving requirements for United States Antarctic Program (USAP; 50 lifetime dives 25 lifetime dry suit dives currentcertificationinfirstaidCPRand oxygen administration 10 dry suit dives within 12 months of Antarctic dive operations; depth certify to 60 and 100 rescue diver certification and physically qualify to deploy to Antarctica (approval of physical exam and required tests by the USAP) .
The applicant will be required to travel for this position (i.e. to Lincoln Nebraska to San Diego CA to Punta Arenas Chile and to Antarctic via research vessel). Must be able and willing to deploy for up to 7.5 weeks to Antarctica.
