Job Description

Reports to: Senior Director of Succeed Boston

Succeed Boston at the Counseling and Intervention Center (CIC) is seeking a highly motivated exceptional results-oriented Assistant Director committed to high standards of performance and achievement by both students and educators. Through a promotion prevention at-risk and intensive services continuum the CIC oversees 10 program areas that directly support students in grades K0-12. The Assistant Director will maintain student discipline and manage the business aspects of the school to assist the Senior Director in creating a safe and welcoming environment conducive to student reflection and SEL skill development.

BPS Succeed Boston at the Counseling & Intervention Center (Succeed) provides Tier 2 voluntary prevention and education workshops to students in grades K-12 and Tier 3 (Code of Conduct infractions) services in grades 5-12. The trauma-informed model includes individual and group counseling SEL skills development substance use education and treatment restorative practices and academics.

The curricula include bullying and violence prevention anger management and conflict resolution education that increases students ability to assess risk consider potential consequences and improve decision-making. In addition to direct student work Succeed Boston leads the districts Restorative Practices Safe and Welcoming Schools team Substance Use and Misuse Bullying Prevention and Intervention work including professional development and the operation of the Safe Space and Bullying Prevention Hotline.

The mission of Succeed Boston is to mitigate the academic and systemic barriers that place children at risk and provide support for children parents/guardians/caregivers and the family. Tier 2 and 3 student-facing work includes push-in support voluntary educational workshops and in-person support for suspended students. Succeeds holistic approach to students is restorative and trauma-informed and aligned with the Superintendents priorities that address educational inequities by providing individual and group counseling and SEL skill development to increase students ability to assess risk consider consequences and repair harm. Self-reported data at the beginning and end of programming shows that 92% of students who attend Succeed Boston report feeling optimistic about the intervention are more engaged at school and have increased prosocial and responsible decision-making skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Assists in the supervision of all staff and assumes the duties of the Senior Director when he/she is not on the premises.
  • Works collaboratively with the Succeed Boston Clinical Coordinator to follow the Code of Conduct and maintain the safety and security of the students building and grounds.
  • Supervises the arrival and departure of students; supervises the behavior of students in the common areas of the building and grounds.
  • Works collaboratively with the leadership team using data to guide program goals and make recommendations.

Assists the Senior Director in his/her managerial duties including:

  • Supervises maintenance of the building and grounds
  • Coordinates purchases and delivery of supplies and equipment
  • Supervises maintenance of personnel and student records
  • Prepares reports and statistics of school operations
  • Assists the Senior Director in planning professional development coordinating curriculum and additional student support services.
  • Supports in hiring training and managing staff to ensure high-quality work productivityand effectiveness as well as retention of staff
  • Engages the wider community to support school goals.Demonstrated ability working with students through a lens of restorative justice
  • Assumes other related duties as requested by the Senior Director

Qualifications - Required:

  • Education: Masters Degree in Education Social Work or related field
  • Five years of progressive administrative experience and direct student facing work
  • Massachusetts DESE Administrator license (Supervisor/ Director Special Education Administrator or Principal/Assistant Principal or ability to obtain one within 90 days of hire.
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities interpersonal skills and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with students teachers administrators and parents.
  • Demonstrated ability working with students through a lens of restorative justice.
  • Understanding of group dynamics conflict resolution and team building
  • Humility and willingness for self-reflection.
  • Familiarity with MTSS and its interface with the Code of Conduct
  • Understanding of Trauma Informed Practices
  • Experience with urban youth
  • Understanding of Special Education systems
  • Familiarity with MTSS and its interface with the Code of Conduct
  • Ability to establish a multi-cultural atmosphere that enhances individual growth and promotes a positive self-image.
  • Regularly engage in opportunities to maintain knowledge of current evidence-based practices to support learning specific to their roles and expertise.
  • Works cooperatively with all BPS departments and school staff to enhance the services offered to all students in the school system.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish positive relationships with students and staff
  • Current authorization to work in the United States - Candidates must have such authorization by their first day of employment.

Qualifications - Preferred:

  • Experience in Grant writing and fundraising.
  • BPS values linguistic diversity and believes that candidates who speak another language bring added value to the classroom school and district culture and diversity.
