Job Description

Overview

As a Critical Care Nurse at CHI St. Alexius Health Dickinson now part of CommonSpirit Health formed between Catholic Health Initiatives (CHI) and Dignity Health youll monitor patients who are critically ill and unstable following extensive injury surgery or life-threatening disease.

Each shift begins with a patient report from a nursing teammate before making your rounds. Youll continue to provide whatever care or procedures are required throughout the shift. This could mean assisting a physician with a chest tube or central line providing wound care transporting the patient for an MRI or CT or administering medications.

To thrive in this role youll heavily depend on your ability to multitask and react. Youll clinically care for your patients remain focused and attentive and advocate for their best interests. It is your sound judgment during an emergency and rapid response that puts you on the radar for advancement.

CHI St. Alexius Health Dickinson part of CommonSpirit Heath a national nonprofit health system based in Englewood Colorado. The faith-based system operates in 18 states and includes 103 hospitals. Additional services offered within the system are: long-term care assisted and residential living communities community health services organizations home health agencies and numerous outpatient facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Assesses patients health and continuously monitors; detect changes in symptoms health or pain and take action as necessary; and quickly and accurately assess patient care needs
  • Responds to life saving situations based upon nursing standards policies procedures and protocol
  • Sets priorities in plan of care based on assessed needs and anticipates personnel supplies and equipment required to care for patients based on assessed needs
  • Works collaboratively with provider to provide exceptional care
  • Administers medications IV therapy and treatments in compliance with policies and procedures
  • Provides patient and family education
  • Records all care information concisely accurately and completely in a timely manner in the appropriate format and on the appropriate forms

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience

  • Associates Degree in Nursing

Required Licensure and Certifications

  • Licensed by the State of North Dakota Board of Nursing (RN)
  • Certification for Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Certification for Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
    • 6 Month Grace Period
  • Certification for Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)

    • 6 Month Grace Period

Required Minimum Knowledge Skills Abilities and Training

  • Strong oral communications skills
  • Ability to deal with conflict and difficult people
  • Strong critical thinking skills
  • Knowledge of all regulatory agencies and their standards and processes
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities
