Overview/Purpose:
Energy is a core platform and premier banking team at Scotiabank with high visibility and deal velocity. Scotiabanks Energy coverage group has a dedicated team of over 100 energy experts supporting our clients globally through offices in Calgary Houston and London. Our experienced professionals are involved in all facets of the energy sector including upstream midstream oilfield services refining and chemicals. Our commitment to the sector totals $10Bn in the US alone with a broad product footprint spanning traditional banking products trade finance commodities FX interest rate derivatives sustainability DCM ECM M&A&D equity research and more.
Position Highlights:
The Associate supports and works closely with other team members including Analysts Associates Associate Directors Directors and Managing Directors to manage client relationships located in the United States. The Associate will be responsible for handling relationship coverage-related activities including assisting with the creation of marketing materials monitoring industry trends assisting relationship managers by proactively monitoring existing and prospective client bases for revenue generating opportunities and performing due diligence and complex financial analysis.
What Youll Do:
As an Associate you will play an important role in contributing to the overall success of the Global Corporate & Investment Banking team. You will be a valued member of a cohesive team that executes / delivers on individual and team goals plans and initiatives in support of the overall teams business strategies and objectives. Responsibilities and activities will include:
- Executing a range of corporate finance related tasks including financial analysis building and analyzing advanced financial models (including standalone DCF and LBO models) industry research due diligence etc.
- Creating marketing materials and client presentations
- Maintaining / designing Excel spreadsheets and PowerPoint slides on corporate finance strategic investment and industry-related trends for comparative analysis and presentation
- Interacting with other departments of the firm such as Debt Capital Markets Equity Capital Markets Derivatives FX Commodities and Trade Finance to market the firms capabilities and deliver client solutions
- Supporting transaction structuring and execution efforts with increasing levels of responsibility and accountability over time
- Ensuring the adequacy adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational risk regulatory compliance risk AML/ATF risk and conduct risk including but not limited to responsibilities under the Operational Risk Management Framework Regulatory Compliance Risk Management Framework AML/ATF Global Handbook and the Guidelines for Business Conduct

What Youll Bring :
- Completed Undergraduate or Graduate Degree in Business Science Engineering Economics or Mathematics discipline
- 2-3 years as an investment or corporate banking analyst
- Strong work ethic attention to detail and positive can-do attitude
- Knowledge in the financial markets and business
- Interpersonal skills and ability to work in a collaborative environment
- Strong communication skills: ability to distill key messaging themes and concepts from large amounts of information for different levels of audiences across the organization
- Ability to adapt to oncoming challenges presented by a constantly changing work environment
- Ability to prioritize amongst many competing deliverables at any given time
- An aptitude to perform activities using influence through developing deep relationships with stakeholders across business and functional groups
- A strong culture risk and controls mindset
- Team player that is responsive holds themselves to high standards and is of the highest integrity
- Self-motivated eager to learn takes initiative and is able to operate with minimal supervision
- Strong facility with numbers and computer skills with excellent knowledge of Excel PowerPoint and Word
