Job Summary
The OR Supply Specialist oversees the distribution for surgical supplies for case preparation assuring adequate supply pars are maintained and supply inventory concerns are addressed timely and effectively. Daily assessments to identify potential supply concerns. Serves as a liaison between operating room and supply chain teams and leadership. Communicates effectively with OR team members OR service line specialists OR leadership supply chain team members and physician partners. Follows the policy and procedures of both Surgical Services and Materials Management. Demonstrates a commitment to achieving superior customer satisfaction through quality of work attention to detail communication problem solving initiative flexibility adaptability and attitude. Adjust preference cards and provides closed-loop communication of changes. Coordinates with service line specialist and OR leadership on supply conversions discontinued supplies and back orders. Participation in supply par optimization and supply organization projects. Flexibility in meeting the needs of the department.
Minimum Requirements
Experience-Minimum 2 years Operating Room experience; working knowledge of material management functions.
Skills and Abilities:Working knowledge of computers and keying skills. Ability to work and function in a high stress environment. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work with others as a team to ensure quality patient care

Responsibilities- Maintains and protects confidentiality regarding all aspects of patient care.
- Prepares for the care safety comfort and privacy of the patient in surgery in accordance with their individual needs.
- Works with the Circulating Nurse to gather all necessary equipment and supplies in order to meet patient and surgeon needs.
- Maintains an adequate supply of instruments and supplies to meet the patients changing needs intraoperatively.
- Assists with patient transportation as needed following established safety guidelines.
- Assist surgical team with safe transfer of patient from stretcher to OR table and back.
- Assist in draping the patient in the operative area.
- Provides age and culturally appropriate care with specific attention to supplies and equipment.
- Cleans rooms according to P&P in an expedient manner.
- Opens/prepares sterile field using aseptic technique at all times.
- Anticipates surgeons needs throughout procedure.
- Demonstrates competency in handling specialty equipment and instruments.
- Remains alert during procedure at all times demonstrating ability to handle unexpected situations calmly and efficiently.
- Recommends changes in products equipment and instruments which will increase cost efficiency.
- Responsible for the management and coordination of materials in the Surgery Department assuring the continuity of operations.
- Ensures adequate supplies are maintained through the effective management of par levels and adjusting as necessary.
- Manages inventory of materials and equipment to maintain required supply.
- Maintains records stocks and plans for future requirements based on usage surgery schedules and forecast.
- Maintains correct par sheets by adding and deleting items as necessary.
- Monitors supplies to assure the appropriate removal and disposal of expired and damaged inventory.
- Assists sterile processing personnel in ordering inventory items as required.
- Responsible along with Surgical Services leadership for counting and keying bi-annual physical inventories.
- Minimizes stock outs by borrowing from other areas of hospital or facilities as necessary.
- Assist with special order items.

- Develop vendor relationships by communicating with vendors for bill only processes/P.O. procedures according to policy
- Conduct and Communication Skills
- Observes department/hospital policies concerning smoking telephone use dress code and other rules governing conduct while at work. Follows established hospital guidelines with regards to appropriate access of information.
- Meets hospital wide and department specific educational requirements. Attends all annual mandates / required in-services: (i.e. CPR Safety infection control) CPR current if required. Maintains a current Employee Health screening status as per hospital policy.
- Utilizes hospital/departmental manuals appropriately. Knowledgeable of location and use of emergency response equipment. Responds to Emergency Preparedness Plans according to hospital policy.
- Attends and participates in a minimum of 3/4ths of required meetings such as departmental or committee meetings. Maintains inter and intra departmental communication.
- Employee demonstrates an understanding of and adherence to the Code of Conduct. Employee conduct reflects the companys values and a commitment to the Code of Conduct
- Maintains a safe and orderly work area. Cleans equipment as needed. Maintains equipment in safe and proper working condition through correct use and appropriate notification of malfunction.
