Were currently searching for two Staff Psychologists / Counselors - LatinX or BIPOC focus to join our Cook Counseling Center team in Blacksburg VA to help us in our mission. So if youre passionate about student mental health please keep reading.

The Cook Counseling Center provides mental health services to the student community of Virginia Tech. The Staff Psychologist/ Staff Counselor- LatinX or BIPOC focus works with a multidisciplinary staff of counselors psychologists psychiatrists social workers nurse practitioners psychology interns psychiatry residents and practicum students to deliver services that maintain the highest standards of professional and ethical care. The center is accredited by the International Accreditation of Counseling Services (IACS) and has a doctoral internship program accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA).

HERES WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE ROLE:
1) Youll be joining the Cook Counseling Center team; a department centered on promoting student learning development retention and holistic well-being by providing resources for improving mental health and identifying psychological barriers to academic success.
2) Youll be reporting to the Associate Director for Community Engagement in a Regular twelve-month 100% administrative professional appointment.
3) The ideal candidate will provide brief culturally competent counseling for individuals groups and couples with diverse clinical concerns being responsible for providing direct clinical services to undergraduate and graduate students including initial consultation and assessment crisis intervention as needed individual and group counseling and psychiatric referrals. This position will conduct crisis interventions as needed during the day and will provide back-up coverage for the after-hours on-call service. The individual will also work with partners across the university to develop and provide culturally informed outreach and prevention services as well as partner with others on staff to provide training for other staff members.
4) Two positions are being hired through this posting a Staff Psychologist/Staff Counselor with a LatinX focus and a Staff Psychologist/Staff Counselor with a BIPOC focus. The goal for these positions is to further our work with Hispanic-Latinx BIPOC communities and marginalized students as we better understand the lived experiences of these students on this campus. We are particularly interested in hiring individuals with knowledge and experience working with these populations of students. Required Qualifications
The successful candidate must have a masters degree in counseling or a doctoral degree in clinical or counseling psychology and be licensed or licensed eligible as a licensed professional counselor or licensed clinical psychologist in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Supervision may be provided with a goal of licensure within 1-2 years from start date of employment depending on degree and licensure requirements.
Experience providing focused therapeutic interventions with a multidisciplinary team.
Experience and interest in collaboration with academic departments faculty and staff.
Training and experience in delivering culturally competent interventions.
Well-developed counseling and clinical supervision skills
Experience with outreach and educational programming e.g. prevention programs.
Experience managing crisis situations completing risk assessments and disposition planning to address safety risks.
A self-motivated self-directed commitment to the highest ethical standards of professional practice.
The energy to flexibly manage the professional demands of the role while maintaining positive and healthy relationships.
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues with acceptance respect and trust.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications
Experience and interest in working with Hispanic-LatinX.
Bilingual.
Experience or interest in working with students from under-represented populations.
Previous training and/or experience in a college mental health setting.
