The Emergency Medicine (EM) Clinical Specialist is responsible for the delivery and documentation of pharmaceutical care provided to patients during the medication use process (selecting prescribing dispensing administration and monitoring of medications). The EM pharmacist provides clinical
direction for the pharmacy and acts as a pharmacy liaison. The pharmacist in this position actively participates in formulary management pharmacotherapy services research quality improvement activities and drug therapy management.
This position is critical to the success of St. Josephs Hospital and Medical Center and requires the full understanding and active participation in fulfilling the Mission of Dignity Health.
The Emergency Medicine pharmacist:
Performs order verification and completes kinetics consults for associated hospital areas
Collaborates with the EM team and provides direct patient care
Acts as pharmaceutical consultant to provide drug information to providers and nurses
Precepts pharmacy practice residents and pharmacy students
Drives pharmacy initiative development and implementation and provides continued oversight
Acts as a pharmacy representative in clinical quality and regulatory activities pertaining to the
optimal use of medications
Contributes to P&T Committee activities as appropriate
Actively participates in patient care with providers in a collaborative practice model
Provides comprehensive pharmacotherapy services at the top of her/his license

Minimum Requirements:
Graduate degree in pharmacy
Current Arizona pharmacist license in good standing
PGY1 Pharmacy Residency
Preferred Qualifications:
PGY2 Residency in Emergency Medicine or Critical Care
Two or more years of acute clinical pharmacy experience highly preferred
BPS Board Certification (BCPS or equivalent)
ACLS and PALS Certification
Prior experience working in an ED setting
Strong clinical pharmacy skills
Experience in precepting both pharmacy residents within an ASHP accredited PGY1 pharmacy residency program and APPE students from ACPE accredited Colleges of Pharmacy
Experience with Cerner Millennium
