Job Description

Join Our Team as a Payroll and HRIS Specialist!
Are you a detail-oriented professional with a passion for payroll and HR systems Whether youre early in your HR journey or looking to deepen your expertise Spartanburg Methodist College invites you to apply for the role of Payroll and HRIS Specialist. In this important position youll help ensure employees are paid accurately and on time maintain our HRIS data integrity and support key HR functions across the organization.
What Youll Do
Payroll Responsibilities
  • Process and manage payroll for all SMC employees.
  • Accurately calculate taxes deductions benefits and retirement contributions.
  • Maintain payroll records and respond to employee inquiries.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal state and local payroll regulations.
  • Prepare reports for audits and internal use.
HRIS Responsibilities
  • Manage and maintain our Human Resources Information System (HRIS) to ensure accurate up-to-date employee records.
  • Conduct regular data audits and troubleshoot system issues.
  • Coordinate system updates with IT and other departments.
  • Educate employees on HRIS features and self-service tools.
  • Generate reports on headcount turnover benefits and performance data.
  • Reconcile benefits data with vendors and assist with system integrations.
HR Support
  • Support the HR Director with onboarding and employee lifecycle activities.
  • Maintain HR documentation including policies handbooks and job descriptions.
  • Handle employment verifications and wage audits.
  • Provide administrative support and contribute to HR initiatives and projects.
What Were Looking For
  • Bachelors degree in Business Human Resources or a related field (required).
  • Some experience in HR payroll or administrative support is helpfulbut not required.
  • A strong interest and enthusiasm for HR operations payroll and employee service.
  • Willingness to learn and grow within a collaborative team environment.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage confidential information with professionalism and discretion.
  • Strong communication skills and a proactive solution-oriented approach.
Working Conditions
  • Primarily on-site at our SMC campus with the flexibility to work remotely one day per week.
  • Frequent interaction with faculty staff students and external vendors.
  • Light physical activity including sitting standing walking and computer use.
