The Opportunity

Join Hitachi Energys Grid Components team as an R&D Engineer - Metal Enclosed Breakers in Mount Pleasant PA! Within the High Voltage Products Business Unit (BU) the Technology Center (TC) North America is responsible for developing and optimizing high voltage equipment for electrical substations. Our team dedicated to metal-enclosed high voltage circuit breakers is at the forefront of innovation in the field of electrical power distribution and protection systems. Circuit breakers are essential components of high voltage substations designed to manage electricity flow and interrupt it during faults or emergencies. Reporting to the R&D Team Manager you will join a talented highly specialized cross-functional organization leveraging your unique technical expertise and collaboration skills in assignments related to circuit breaker testing application cases and the development and optimization of electro-mechanical key components.

How Youll Make an Impact

  • Participate in international R&D projects serving as a technical specialist or work-package leader.

  • Perform advanced technology and product development assignments.

  • Provide technical support to business operations to meet customer needs.

  • Identify and implement short and long-term solutions for product and process updates.

  • Offer technical support for mechanical and electrical testing in laboratories.

  • Assist in new supplier qualification activities and maintain technical instructions.

  • Identify and manage Intellectual Property (IP) risks and opportunities.

  • Support the IP organization with invention disclosures and patent searches.

Your Background

  • Bachelors or Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.

  • Technical experience in the electro-mechanical industry ideally with high voltage circuit breakers.

  • Proficiency in CAD software and 3D modeling tools such as PTC Creo or similar.

  • Excellent documentation presentation and communication skills.

  • Willingness to collaborate with cross-functional teams in an international environment.

  • Proactive and innovative approach to solving multi-disciplinary problems.
