The Security Guard will provide professional front line security support (static and mobile) to the Grande Prairie building often being the first point of contact for residents staff and visitors. Primary to this role is the monitoring of building access and the overseeing of activities within and around the property via CCTV surveillance of the buildings. The position will also liaise with all client support staff and conduct security patrols within and around The Mustard Seeds properties to optimize safety service and a sense of community within the buildings.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Supervise building access
- Provide a visible and attentive security presence on the main floor of the building completing nightly surveillance in the building perceiving and responding to opportunities that will optimize safety and build community
- Monitor the resident staff and visitor activities within and around the properties and parking lot providing support and crisis intervention as required
- Proactively communicate and collaborate with all client support staff
- Inspect buildings equipment and access points; permitting entry obtains help by sounding alarms prevents losses and damage by reporting irregularities; informing violators of policy and procedures
- Conduct security patrols baggage check complete logs and prepare reports as required
- Keep all client information confidential
- Attend monthly general meetings and support meetings with supervisor
- Other duties as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
- Post-secondary education in related field preferred
- Valid Alberta Security Guard license
- Frontline experience in working with vulnerable populations
- Experience with crisis intervention conflict resolution and problem solving considered an asset
- Good organizational and time management skills
- Strong relationship building and communication skills
- Working knowledge of MS Office computer applications
- Ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously while always maintaining a professional approach
WORKING CONDITIONS
- This position will require working inside and outside in various climates and will involve moderate levels of physical effort including but not limited to standing for extended periods sitting walking climbing stairs bending and lifting
- This position requires focused mental effort including but not limited to adapting to an often fast-paced environment operating a computer using a CCTV security system using two-way radio communications perceiving and quickly responding to crises within and around the building
- Understand that some Mustard Seed clients may experience personal challenges that may result in the use of inappropriate language that could be considered angry argumentative discriminatory and demeaning
- Relationship building and conflict resolution are also part of this role
- Training and uniform will be provided for this position
- Steel toe shoes are required. Protective footwear must be worn at all times regardless of the presence of a hazard
